It’s our hope World Cinema Paradise will eventually become a kind of refuge for some of the best film criticism and scholarship around, perhaps even eventually serving as a kind of depository for talented writers showcasing their work, and to make available for download facets of their widely varied but always fascinating research. In an age where Internet browsers have not only come to expect but even demand free content (including downloading unlicensed movies), many talented cinema historians have been languishing at other websites that refuse to pay them. Anything. Having nowhere else to turn, they ply their craft and unique skills at a total financial loss. World Cinema Paradise is conceived as an alternative to this, where writers are not only appreciated and nurtured by their peers (and readers) but who also actually get paid. It’s a kind of Grand Experiment, to see if by soliciting paid reviews and feature stories from the crème de la crème we can, together, create a website that will attract readers to better-written, more competent, informative, insightful, and entertaining movie scholarship.
