About WTIIRA In 1987, Research & development center was established in the same location as its Al Jubail Power and Desalination plants. This landmark move was in recognition of the complex nature of the desalination industry and its exponential growth in capacity. R&D has a unique infrastructure and facilities; it is considered a center of excellence promoting the technological development of the desalination industry worldwide. Saudi Water Authority (SWA) relies heavily on R&D center activities to support its desalination and power generation facilities as well as water treatment units.
