Yirri Global provides counsel to senior executives and their companies, primarily in the extractive sector (including mining, oil & gas and agribusiness), on stakeholder risks and management strategies. We work in the interface between formal economic activity and communities, particularly in the developing world. Our clients include both large and small businesses, governments, national and international donors, and community and civil society groups. Countries in which we have worked include Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Turkey, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Uzbekistan, Peru, United States, Canada and Mongolia. The Principal of Yirri Global is Dr Chris Anderson, a social anthropologist who has worked as a senior executive and communities and social performance practitioner in the mining industry for 17 years, with Rio Tinto, Newmont Mining Corporation, and Normandy Mining. Our strengths are in the areas of executive and management training in the business value of stakeholder mapping, engagement and management; cross-cultural training, particularly for multi-cultural management teams and expatriates; undertaking stakeholder mapping and engagement planning with clients; due diligence on ‘above-ground’ risks prior to investment decisions; risk communication and Outrage Management; NGO engagement and management. Other areas of expertise include Indigenous peoples issues, Aboriginal engagement and Free, Prior & Informed Consent, land access and claims, artisanal mining, anthropological studies & analyses, communities and social performance (assessment; audits, strategic planning, monitoring and reporting tools); agreement-making; government relations; media; resettlement; human rights and advocacy and communication.
