Zarqa Life Center

Zarqa Life Center (ZLC) is a grassroots organization that was set up in December 2015 as a response to an influx of Syrian refugees, with a high number of women and children arriving in Zarqa. What began as a space of healing and connection has transformed into so much more. Here, women are empowered to live physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy lives through collaboration, entrepreneurship, education, and social cohesion through a number of programs. ZLC implemented integration efforts by opening the center increasingly to the local community, offering group counseling, vocational training workshops, and language and recreational classes. It also established an informal early learning center for children and a separate learning facility for children with special needs. Records from 2017 until August 2022 at ZLC show that 2828 women participated in ZLC’s programs, including 1681 Jordanians, 1088 Syrians, and 59 other nationalities (e.g, Iraqi, Egyptian, Palestinian, and Lebanon). What we do: The Zarqa Life Center is a women’s empowerment and community development center that offers non-formal and vocational education, mental health, and psychosocial support programs and services. ZLC offers a holistic response to the unique challenges faced by the refugee and most at-risk communities in Zarqa, Jordan.
