Zink Technologies Ltd (Zinktech) is a new company formed to realise the potential of its patented technology, namely a low cost, reflective, bistable LCD display. ZTL brings together a strong commercial team which is focussed on one thing – changing the way that we see information outside the home. The technology was invented by a leading UK university. ZTL acquired the patent application and was successful in securing the main claims including: • Bistable LCD switching meaning that power is only required to change the image resulting in minimal energy usage • Single layer design meaning that the cost is lower and the product more flexible and robust • Reflective backplane so that the image looks like paper, needing simple illumination only at night • Simple construction, potentially compatible with roll-to-roll processing on plastic films Transforming the world as we see it.
