Independence Defense Journal
I established The Independence Defense Journal as an opportunity to share my views and publications, both academic and opinion to the larger defense and business community. Having over 20 years within the Department of Defense my experiences have helped shape my views and opinions as we continue our fight against terrorism. As a civilian and military intelligence officer, I have extensive experience in special warfare, counter-terrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the Middle East, Asia and South Asia. I feel it's essential that we continue to evaluate, analyze and challenge strategic and operational strategies as the spread of Islamic terrorism continues to grow. Part of this discussion is the discussion of defense spending, acquisitions and future of warfare. My Public Policy section is an off-shoot and is meant to capture ongoing issues within the Federal, State and Local government. No topic is off limit. As a business executive, I am also including my work within business management, project management, job seeking and workplace improvement techniques and strategies. There is no specific format for the Journal and I expect it to stay this way. In the past, I have written on topics I have encountered in the course of my daily life. The focus areas range from business, education, public policy, and national defense. There is no agenda here, just straight forward pieces on how I view specific issues across a spectrum of ideas and positions- Greg Lewis

Monument To Women Veterans
Established in 2011, Monument to Women Veterans is a 501c3 nonprofit organization leading the charge to recognize and empower women veterans and women currently serving in the military. In 2018 the City of Pensacola agreed to a 100-year lease of the existing run-down Amtrak train station on Heinberg street for the Monument to Women Veterans to establish a Museum to Women Veterans. The Monument to Women Veterans will restore and remodel the existing facility and maintain the building and grounds throughout the lease term. In addition to the museum, World-renowned sculptor Elizabeth MacQueen has been selected to create this magnificent masterpiece that will reach over 30 ft into the air with flames and a laser beam over a stainless-steel elliptical band of flowing water. The monument will be surrounded by women figures from each branch of service in uniforms depicting their roles in various capacities as they have risen to the challenge, despite many adversities, to serve their country. We have been involved in several projects, including: The Empowerment Center This program aims to help women veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI, and Military Sexual Trauma to achieve self-sufficiency, pay their rent and utilities, and provide the normal, necessary items for a healthy lifestyle for their family with adequate food, clothing, and shelter. Home for the Holidays In partnership with POE In Action, Monument to Women Veterans established a housing initiative for homeless veterans. By working with many different agencies and volunteers, the project evolved into the most successful method for reducing veteran homelessness. The Invisible War Oscar- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Kirby Dick comes this groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of America's most shameful and best-kept secrets - the epidemic of rape within the U.S. military. Plans are currently underway for approval for CEU credit for social workers and mental health counselors.
