On 7th, November 1963, “The Goa State Co-operative Bank Ltd” was founded as Apex financing agency in the co-operative sectors in the then Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu with Mr.Shantilal K.Gosalia as its first Chairman. The first Chairman and the Board were the people with deep and abiding ideals, faith, vision, optimism and entrepreneurial skills. These dedicated men in-charge of the Society had a commendable sense of service and duty imbibed in them. Even today, our honorable founders inspire a sense of awe and respect in the Bank and amongst the shareholders. The Bank was initially set up to help the members in distress. Its objective was to provide finance to the needy members in the then Union territory of Goa, Daman & Diu and bring up their financial standards. History This Institution namely THE GOA URBAN COOPERATIVE BANK LTD,Panaji - Goa was converted from the earlier Institution namely "CAIXA DE PREVEDENCIA DE GOA". A brief past history of this Institution which goes back to 26.1.1889 is given on page 74 of the Book entitled "An Economic Review of Goa" by Shri Prabhakar S. Angle and published by The Goa Hindu Association Kala Vibhag in 1983. It will thus be seen that in effect The Goa Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd. is the oldest Cooperative Institution in India. The original bye-laws of the Institution were published in the Gazette on 18th December,1890, the bank has a copy of the Gazette in its records obtained from the Central Library. The bye-laws consist of different chapters with 47 Articles and mention about the act of 1853 under which the bye-laws have been registered. The Bank also is having a book of proceedings of the earlier institution right from 1895. The continuity of this institution right from 1889 is established by reference of existence of 30 years in the proceedings book on page 91. After liberation, this earlier institution which was doing Life Insurance business on Cooperative lines could not carry on the business on account of monopoly of LIC. Instead of closing down, the institution was converted into The Goa Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd. inheriting initial membership of the ‘Caixa de Prevedencia de Goa' of about members and working Capital of The Goa Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd. started functioning with effect from 9.8.1964 at Panaji and the first branch of the Bank was opened at Margao in 1967.

The Bank was set up on 1st Nov.1966 under the Punjab Cooperative Societies Act, 1965 (replaced by Haryana Cooperative Societies Act, 1984) in the name and style of the Haryana State Cooperative Land Mortgage Bank Limited. The nomenclature of the bank was changed to the Haryana State Cooperative Land Development Bank Limited in the year 1974 and thereafter the nomenclature of the bank was changed to The Haryana State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank Ltd;(HSCARDB). At the time of establishment of the bank, there were only seven PCARDBs in the State, now there are 19 District Primary Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (DPCARDBs) with 70 branches at Tehsil and Sub-Tehsil level. The main objective of the Bank is purveyance of Long Term Credit to the agriculturists through its 19 District Primary Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (DPCARDBs) and their branches under various Agriculture and its allied activities along with NFS purposes. HSCARDB acts as an Apex Institution both for providing long term finance and for coordinating the functions of DPCARDBs and their branches. The District Primary Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (DPCARDBs) in the State have provided Long Term Credit amounting to Rs. 7124.07 Crores to 1174374 beneficiaries up to 31.03.2021 since the inception of the Bank.

In this background, the "Hotel Entrepreneurs Co-operative Bank" came into existence on 24-11-1966 as a result of the idea of small and medium sized hotel entrepreneurs to start their own bank to provide financial assistance systematically. Senior hotelier Shri S. Lakshminarayana Raya's dream. Like minded Shri K. L. Aital, Mr. H. J. Ananda Ram, Shri A. Vasudeva Rao, Shri B. Vitthal Shetty, Shri G. Ar. Aital, Shri K. Ramachandra Rao, Shri K. Subraya Manja, Shri M. S. Venkataramana Karantha, Mr. Gururajachar, Mr. K. Shankara Rao, Shri K. Ar. Nagappaiah, Shri T.D. Sivaprakash, Shri M. Manjunathaiah and Shri K.S. Sreedharan's corporate loyalty laid the solid foundation of the original capital. Dr. Nagappa Alva, the then minister, officiated the inauguration of the bank which was inaugurated at the Mallappa New Market Building in Chikkapet, Bangalore. On the same day, 121 enthusiastic entrepreneurs took membership of the bank. Within the same financial year, an advance of Rs.1,12,607/- was disbursed along with a collection of Rs.1,28,751/. Among the founder directors of the bank were Mr. H.J. Anandram as the first chairman of the bank; Shri A. Vasudeva Raya as Vice President; Shri B. Vitthal Shetty as Honorary Secretary; Shri S. Lakshminarayana Raya was also elected as the treasurer. The idea behind opening a Co-op Bank in Rajajinagar came to the mind of Sri M.R.Nagarajan, when he once happened to witness a poor man pledging his Jewels with a Pawn broker for a very high rate of interest, deeply pained with that situation Sri M.R.Nagarajan thought of opening a Co-op Bank to help Public residing in and around Rajajinagar in general and poor class in particular. He put-forth the idea of opening a co-op Bank with his associates and organised a Meeting with them along with Public and succeeded in getting the concurrence of his associates, and the public and a resolution was passed to open a Co-operative Bank in a suitable place in Rajajinagar area. The Bank was named as “ THE RAJAJINAGAR CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD.”. Sri M.R.Nagarajan took up the issue with the then register a Co-op Societies, by framing the bye-laws and got the Bank registered by the Deputy Registrar of Co-op Societies on 28.09.1966. Later the Bank applied for license with the R.B.I and succeding in obtaining the license on 14.12.1966 and commenced the banking business. Thus the Rajajinagar Co-op Bank ltd came into existence.
