CRSP dsgn is a South African social enterprise that is focused on designing and developing innovative technologies for social impact in the developing world. The company was initially established in 2016 to commercialize the #LCERT (Low Cost Educational Robotics Toy) kit, in order to increase the access and affordability of quality 21st Century STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) education in South Africa, Africa and the rest of the developing world. In early 2016, CRSP dsgn was selected as one of the Top 10 finalists of the prestigious Hack Jozi Challenge, which was run by the JCSE's (Joburg Centre for Software Engineering) Tshimologong Precinct and City of Johannesburg. Later that year, CRSP went on to win first place at the 2016 SAB Foundation Social Innovation Awards. The prize included comprehensive business support and mentorship from The Innovation Hub; technical support from TIA (Technology Innovation Agency); as well as enough seed funding to establish CRSP dsgn as a viable #EdTech business. The year 2017 saw the start-up expand it's reach by working with a handful of schools and township-based Science Centres to promote and teach Coding and Robotics education to previously disadvantaged learners, using the #LCERT kit. At the end of the year, the team travelled to #EdTechX Asia in Singapore to introduce the #LCERT to rest of the developing world. As a startup which is less than 2 years in operation, CRSP dsgn has shown great potential for success and received numerous accolades for it’s #LCERT social innovation. But we still believe that we have a lot of work to do. At CRSP dsgn, we believe in a future where the social issues plaguing the developing world will be solved by the ordinary people living in these areas.
