Tortuga Audio's latest product, the LDRx Passive Preamplifier, features software driven digitally controlled passive resistive analog attenuation utilizing audio grade light dependent resistors (LDRs) in a series/shunt topology. The LDRx offers the simplicity of passive attenuation with the outstanding colorless clarity and articulation that only LDRs can offer that rivals both all other passives and most top-end active preamps costing 10x or more. The LDRx utilizes Tortuga Audio's 3rd generation LDR technology that includes an input impedance floor and fully self-contained auto-calibration of the analog LDRs over the full 60 dB attenuation range. The LDRx accommodates 3 single-ended inputs and 2 outputs via rhodium over silver plated copper Cardas jacks with optional Neotech 26AWG UP-OCC solid silver point-to-point wiring in the signal path. Input switching is done via LDRs with no relays in the signal path. Control power utilizes 2 stage 12 and 5 volt switch mode dc-dc regulators run off a linear front end with toroidal transformer and emi/rfi filtering on the AC mains. Control is via the elegantly simply Apple Remote as well as an multi-function encoder on the front panel with status info via dual numerical displays. Software can be updated via a USB port on the rear panel. The LDRx is housed in a stylish robust black anodized aluminum enclosure with distinctive bamboo side panels.
