I have been in the Construction industry for the last 26 years. I started out doing an apprenticeship in painting and decorating for MITIE Deeds in London and then progressed on to work as a foreman. I continued my skill set as foreman for MITIE Deeds and then went to night school to complete my City and Guilds in fine arts (marbling, graining and special effects) and also specialised in wallpaper hanging, silk and vinyl. After visiting sites on a day to day basis I had an interest in other specialised roles within the construction industry, mainly main contractor and subcontractor. This inspired me and I said to myself, this would be my role one day and I continued my studies further to do a HND site management course in construction in the evenings. I achieved this certificate in site management and I worked for a company called Unwins Ltd working with new build projects. Once this was achieved, I continued to push myself further and part of my role was dealing with main contractor and sub-contractor quantity surveyors and their role interested me and encouraged me to train as a quantity surveyor. I signed up to do a course in QS practice and started my studies to further my career. Whilst doing my degree I needed to still earn money and I got a job working with the well-known company Harrods in Knightsbridge. I stayed with Harrods till I completed my degree and then started off as a trainee quantity surveyor for O’Keeffe’s in London and worked on a project called the HSBC building in Carney wharf. Over the next few years I switched companies to gain experience working on both sides of the spectrum, main contractor and sub-contractor as they play different roles in the construction industry. This has led me to my current role, working for myself as a maintenance contractor.

Enniscorthy Castle
Enniscorthy Castle explores the development of the Castle and town from its earliest Anglo-Norman origins, with a special focus on the Castle as a family home. The exhibition also explores the 1916 Rising in Enniscorthy,(only town to rise outside of Dublin), as well as the work of the renowned Irish furniture designer and architect Eileen Gray (born in 1878 just outside the town). In February 2009,"Fauteil aux Dragons", an armchair made by Gray between 1917-1919 (formerly part of the Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé collection) was sold at auction in Paris for €21.9 million, setting a record for 20th century decorative art. The roof of the castle is also accessible, with spectacular views of the surrounding buildings, Vinegar Hill, and countryside. Note that access to the roof is only possible on guided tours. Group sizes on tour is limited to 25. On occasion the Castle may be temporarily closed due to a private tour booking, training, etc- please contact us in advance of your visit to avoid disappointment. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Our facilities include: craft and gift shop, toilets and baby changing area, wheelchair access to all floors (including roof), and visitor information point (tourist office for town).
