This fibres of crushed sugarcane stalks, remaining after raw sugar is extracted from the juice of the sugarcane by shredding it, is now the raw material, called bagasse, that forms the base of this easily installed eco friendly product. The raw material used for our 3d wall panels is 100% recycled, compostable and is therefore 100% biodegradable. y=f(x) is a creative technology studio based in Amsterdam, focused on the creation of overarching multimedia experiences, with specially crafted software and design. The lab is a major component of our practice, where we investigate the possibilities of building and controlling complex systems and algorithms, without losing the ability to manage, adapt and design. The studio was formed by a deep motivation to collaborate in these endeavor and it is a space where, driven by our common passions and our desire to push what we know and have done so far, exciting work takes place constantly. y=f(x) creates versatile interactive experiences, dynamic content and audiovisual installations, powered by the language of generative design and parametric thinking.

1915 Watches
Voorjaar 2015… We zien een keukentafel in een ouderlijk huis en twee jongens van op dat moment slechts 19 en 22 jaar oud. Twee blije blonde koppies buigen zich over iets wat zal uitgroeien tot hun levenswerk: 1915 watches. Het is de beknopte historie van Johnny en Robert Spies; twee uit de bollengrond getrokken jongens. Pioniers zijn het. Mannen met een missie en een enorme joie de vivre. Ondernemers. Complementaire tegenpolen. Broers. Inmiddels zijn ze drie jaar ouder en wijzer. De jongens veroveren niet alleen de harten van haar dragers (waaronder Bekend Nederland), maar ook de ene na de andere juwelier. Hoe dat kan? Door hun enorme gedrevenheid, gunfactor en transparantie. Aan kortingen doen ze niet. “Een goed product heeft geen korting nodig om zich te verkopen”, zeggen ze in stereo. En gelijk hebben ze. Transacties geschieden zowel via hun eigen website als old school: in de juwelierszaken. Online zijn geen stuntprijzen te vinden. Een verademing voor de veelal lokale bijoutiers waarmee ze samenwerken. Even geen moordende concurrentie met online shops. Ze zijn inmiddels zo succesvol dat ze worden gecopycat. Dat maakt hen zowel trots als scherp. Hoe ze hun concurrenten voor blijven? Door heel goed te kijken naar upcoming trends, te luisteren naar hun fans en doordat ze creatief omgaan met belemmeringen. Deze jongens laten zich niet tegenhouden. Drie jaar geleden niet, nu niet, nooit. Sterker nog, uitdagingen vormen de straalmotoren van de ondernemers. “Uitdagingen hebben we nodig, want anders functioneren we niet. Kan niet bestaat niet”, aldus Robert. Zo hebben ze recent een houten (!) horloge ontwikkeld die voldoet aan de strenge wet- en regelgeving voor verplegend personeel. Het bleek een gat in de markt te zijn.

Atelier Iris Nijenhuis
Iris Nijenhuis is an Amsterdam based fashion & product designer with a passion for experimental shapes and structures. Artisanal craftsmanship and innovative techniques go hand in hand in her work, which includes eye catching textile wearables and interior objects such as lampshades and wall panels. She has a penchant for old garments, utensils and furniture and when possible, she respectfully combines the old and the new. During her graduation at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute in 2011 she developed a collection of fabrics and unique pieces that emerged from broad research into the use of innovative techniques. She examined the potential of textiles and tried to give it constructive value, without the use of a sewing machine, stitches or glue. By experimenting with laser cutting, she developed a technique in which the fabric is cut into small puzzle pieces that form the basis of the design process. By connecting the puzzle pieces together manually, inspiring shapes and structures are created that can form various products. After completing two fashion educations, where she developed both technical and conceptual skills, she decided that the corporate fashion industry wouldn´t provide enough gratification, meaning and freedom to her work. Therefore, she chose an independent path and dove deep into her newfound experimental technique in which she saw great potential for various applications. Want to read more? We have been designing and producing plaster stamps for mogul lines since 1948 under different names, and since 1981 we are producing under the name Deltavorm. These stamps define the shape for the winegums, liquorice, foam and other sweets produced by candy factories. Over all those years, Deltavorm has built an archive of over different designs and more than matrices. Deltavorm is based in the South-West of the Netherlands and currently employs 20 people. We design 1.500 new shapes a year. Nowadays, we can assist you in the design process, ranging from a complete concept development to the production of stamps in several different materials, like detectable plaster, detectable elastomer and (polished, anodized or Teflon-coated) aluminium. Mogul-lines are the machines that are the most flexible solution for today's candy industry to transfer raw ingredients into a marketable shape of choice. This requires a design company that is dedicated to a fast, flexible and reliable design and production of stamps – in whatever material. The importance of these stamps is evident; the shape and material of the stamp will be reflected in the quality of each and every candy produced with it, and the efficiency of the design will affect the production volume.
