Design Education Forum Of Southern Africa Defsa
DEFSA is the Design Education Forum of Southern Africa. The non-profit organisation provides a platform for academics in the design education sector to engage in research, best practice and networking through various mechanisms including a biennial conference, workshops and an interactive website that hosts peer reviewed and published research papers. Design Time Pty Ltd School Of Interior Design
Design Time (PTY) LTD is a small privately run Interior Design School in the heart of Observatory Cape Town and was established in 1987. The School offers a full time course in the field of Interior Design. The full-time course offered by Design Time (PTY) LTD are structured with the view to preparing students for careers in the professional world of building and Interior Design, and at the same time equipping them with the skills and the knowledge enabling them to explore other design disciplines such as furniture design, set design, textile design and product design. Essentially, the main objectives are to equip each student with the skills needed to exercise creativity in a practical form, and to encourage a spirit of enterprise, that is the lifeblood of a successful design practice. These considerations are given priority in the detailed planning of the syllabus, and in the day-to-day administration of Design Time (PTY) LTD. Our highly qualified and experienced lecturers are concerned with each learners design capabilities and individual progress, and are aware of the value of constructive criticism and personal encouragement as part of their growth and development. We therefore make ourselves available to assist the learners with any course-related problems that may arise during the academic year. The learner will leave Design Time with a professional standard of draughtsmanship, coloured visual presentations, and an understanding of the design and decoration of interiors, buildings, objects and furniture. This will be reflected in a portfolio illustrating a diverse series of projects. Students will be required to complete assignments within the studio times (9.00 am to 2.00 pm), as well as outside school hours. An 80% class attendance is a prerequisite for completing examination projects. Students who have completed the course have found employment in a great variety of design fields, i.e. architectural firms, interior design and decorating studios.

Adsorb Technologies Pty Ltd
As the name suggests Adsorb specialises in carbon adsorption solutions and technologies. Solutions include but are not limited to fixed-bed adsorption, pulse-bed adsorption, thermal reactivation and pyrolysis. In addition it has three proprietary technologies that it sells and supports. These are a pulse-bed adsorption system, a fluid-bed reactivation system and a flash-pyrolysis system. Carbon and specifically activated carbon is both an underestimated and underutilised purification technology. Unfortunately, it is negatively tarnished by its colour, often perceived to be a dirty process. If anything it is an environmentally friendly technology, especially when using biomass based carbons e.g. coconut shell and wood. What is required is better engineering to ensure that carbon is contained and not allowed to “dirty” its name. The age-old process of pyrolysis (charcoaling for laymen) is receiving renewed interest. The reason for this is its carbon negative potential, capable of limiting climate change. Its link to activated carbon is twofold: i) char is a potential raw material for the manufacture of activated carbon and ii) the thermo-chemical reactions involved are similar to those used in thermal regeneration of activated carbon. In other words pyrolysis and activated carbon are complimentary.
