Dcu Student Life
Since 1985, the Office of Student Life has supported and developed the provision of high-quality services, supports, and facilities to DCU’s students. The OSL is the umbrella body for the Students’ Union, Club Life Committee and Society Life Committee; providing administrative support, training and facilities for the student leadership and student led bodies that work to enhance the experience and richness of students’ time in DCU. The Office of Student Life is based in The U Building on the Glasnevin Campus and in D112 on the St Patrick’s Campus - which houses its staff and facilities, including meeting rooms and spaces, a large venue and many other support services vital for a vibrant student life on campus. The OSL works to enhance student life in DCU through supporting student run organisations. Our mission is to enhance and support your DCU experience – both inside and outside the classroom – providing opportunities for growth and development through holistic experiences. Each year a percentage of your registration fee is put into one big pot called ‘capitation’. This money is then given to the OSL to fund Clubs, Societies, and the Students’ Union. DCU Sports & Wellbeing works in partnership with the OSL to develop sport and physical activity on campus. The service has a number of Sports Development Officers who aim to develop specific sports clubs and to enhance the student sport and physical activity experience on campus.

Malahide Community School is a large co-educational second level school in North County Dublin with approximately 1200 students. In the early 1950s Mrs. Catherine Dowling set up the Stella Maris School in Malahide Village. Mrs. Dowling amalgamated her school with the convent and joined the staff of the newly established school. In 1976 the school joined the community school system which meant that it was no longer private (Independent) and became Pobalscoil Íosa. A new, fully equipped building, known as the Junior Block was added, followed shortly afterward by the Sports Hall. In October 2007 a new building was opened by the Minister for Education, Ms. Mary Hanafin. In September 2012 iPads were introduced as a digital schoolbook for first year students. Now all year groups are using iPads in classes and Schoology (a digital learning management system) also to deliver technology enhanced learning.
