The main purpose of the deanship of Student Affairs at Jordan University of Science and Technology is to complement the academic mission by promoting and preparing the students for entrepreneurship and lifelong learning. The deanship works collaboratively with the students to accomplish significant contribution to the neighboring community as well as the society via voluntary work in an attempt to extend the student services beyond the classroom. بدأ الاهتمام بالتعليم العالي من حيث الإشراف عندما صدر قانون التعليم العالي عام 1980 وأنشئ بعد ذلك مجلس التعليم العالي عام 1982 ليشرف بدوره على مؤسسات التعليم العالي الأردنية، وفي عام 1985 أنشئت وزارة التعليم العالي، وصدر قانون التعليم العالي رقم (28) لسنة 1985 الذي حدد أهداف التعليم العالي كما حدد صلاحيات ومسؤوليات مجلس التعليم العالي ووزارة التعليم العالي، وعلاقاتها بمؤسسات التعليم العالي، وبعد مرور ثلاثة عشر عاماً على تأسيس الوزارة صدر قانون التعليم العالي رقم (6) لسنة 1998 والذي تم بموجبه إلغاء وزارة التعليم العالي واستبدالها بمجلس التعليم العالي وإتباع كافة كليات المجتمع الأردنية لجامعة البلقاء التطبيقية. وبعد تسلّم جلالة الملك عبدالله الثاني بن الحسين المعظم سلطاته الدستورية ورد في أحد كتب التكليف الملكي السامي إعادة إنشاء وزارة التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي بتاريخ 21/8/2001 لتتولى عملية الإشراف والمراقبة على مؤسسات التعليم العالي الرسمية والخاصة والنهوض بمستوى التعليم العالي ليواكب ويتواءم مع التطورات التي شهدها قطاع التعليم العالي في العالم وحاجات وتطلعات المجتمع الإنسانية والبيئة بشكل عام.
