Nus Department Of The Built Environment
The NUS Department of the Built Environment (DBE) was created on 1 July 2021 after a rebranding of the Department of Building (DOB). The DOB was originally established on 1 June when the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Real Estate was restructured as the School of Design and Environment (SDE). The Department has more than 50 years of history and traces its roots to the Department of Building and Estate Management that was formed in 1969. The DBE now sits as one of the 10 Departments of the recently set-up NUS College of Design and Engineering as a result of the merger of SDE and the Faculty of Engineering starting in 2022. This departmental rebranding heralds the dawn of a new era which firmly anchors the department at the forefront of Built Environment education and research. This rebranding serves to future-proof our educational offerings to transcend beyond the traditional notions of building, project, and facilities management. This thereby ensures that our graduates remain highly sought-after by the relevant industries. The DBE offers the undergraduate programmes Bachelor of Engineering (Infrastructure and Project Management) as well as Bachelor of Science (Project and Facilities Management). The DBE also offers taught and research postgraduate programmes such as the Master of Science (Building Performance and Sustainability), the Master of Science (Project Management), and Doctor of Philosophy/Master of Science (Built Environment). Nus Raffles Hall
Founded in 1958, Raffles Hall was one of the first halls to be established in the National University of Singapore (NUS). Raffles Hall was originally located in Nassim Road, Bukit Timah, alongside Eusoff College. At that time, Raffles Hall was an all-boys hall. Due to an increase in the number of female students, Raffles Hall officially became co-ed in 1975. In 1981, NUS shifted from the Bukit Timah campus to the current Kent Ridge campus. The establishment of two new halls there took a toll on Raffles Hall’s residential numbers. Consequently, Raffles Hall bade farewell to Nassim Road and moved to the Kent Ridge Campus in 1984. The new Raffles Hall site was almost twice the size of the old Nassim Road site. Raffles Hall has its roots in Raffles College, which was one of the institutes of higher learning that merged to eventually form the National University of Singapore (the other being King Edward VII college). Raffles Hall was also modelled after the colleges at Oxford and Cambridge, and hence many of their traditions trickled down to us. The positions of the Master, Resident Fellows, Junior Common Room Committees (JCRCs) and Senior Common Room Committees (SCRCs) all stemmed from those origins. And although “Raffles” is a common name for many institutions and organisations in Singapore, Raffles Hall is in no way affiliated to them.

School In
SCHOOL IN was created by and for parents. We strongly believe that, as parents, education is the best gift that we can provide for our children. This is precisely the reason why we are so passionate about what we do here at SCHOOL IN. Education shapes our children, changing the way they learn and teaching them to be independent. It also shapes their values, beliefs, behaviours and ultimately, the type of person they will become. SCHOOL IN helps parents to choose the right school for their children by providing the knowledge and experience of those who know the various schools best – the alumni, employees and other parents who have first-hand experiences with the schools. These wonderful people share what they know freely with the unique objective of helping other parents to make the right choice.
