Only 90 minutes from Melbourne, Phillip Island Nature Parks attracts over 1.3 million visitors annually to its five ecotourism attractions including the Penguin Parade, the Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies, the Koala Conservation Reserve and Churchill Island. Phillip Island Nature Parks also manages over 1,805 hectares of Crown Land including a variety of coastal reserves, Ramsar listed wetlands, and woodlands as a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation. We acknowledge that the Crown Land we are privileged to manage forms part of the traditional lands of the Bunurong and that the Land, Waters and Sea are of spiritual, cultural and economic importance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Since the Nature Parks was created in 1996, Phillip Island’s wildlife and environment have flourished. The Summerland Peninsula is restored, securing habitat for little penguins and creating a majestic canvas for a truly world-class visitor experience. Our little penguin, seabird, seal and environmental research programs are cutting edge and provide models for conservation excellence across the globe. Our model of funding conservation through quality tourism and education experiences is precious, enabling us to invest in programs to ensure Phillip Island’s landscape, habitats and wildlife are protected for future generations. We work in partnership with Government and Non-Government Organisations to assist in the delivery of key local and state initiatives. Barwon Coast
Barwon Coast Committee of Management Inc.(Barwon Coast) is appointed by the Victorian State Government to manage 13km of coastal Crown land from 7W Ocean Grove to 42W Barwon Heads, along the Bass Strait coast of the Bellarine Peninsula. Committee members are appointed under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978 and are selected through a public skills-based ‘expression of interest’ process and volunteer their time to oversee the business operations of Barwon Coast; having responsibility for- The natural values of the foreshore reserves- Cultural heritage protection- The Port of Barwon Heads- Caravan parks and camping ground- Commercial leases, licences and permits; and - Implementation of tourism, recreation and educational services and facilities. Barwon Coast has a work force of around 30 full time employees plus part timers to deliver state government policies on behalf of all Victorians. Revenue of around $5M annually is generated from caravan park operations, lease, licence and permit fees and grant applications.

Bellarine Bayside Foreshore Committee Of Management
Bellarine Bayside Foreshore Committee of Management (Bellarine Bayside) is a not-for-profit, Category 1 coastal Committee of Management formed by the Victorian Government in 1994 to manage 17 kilometres of coastal Crown land reserve on the northern Bellarine Peninsula. The reserve includes natural and built assets, holiday parks, the Coastal Trail, playgrounds, community halls, boat ramps and boat sheds. Some of the key management programs include- protection and enhancement of the natural environment- maintenance of open spaces (parks, playgrounds, car parks)- ensuring safe access and provision of safe and functional facilities- community education and engagement- maintenance of five boat ramps and associated jetties and facilities- accommodation provision related operations (Portarlington Holiday Park and five seasonal camping reserves); and - foreshore reserve use-related leases, licences and permits. Committee members are selected through a public, skills-based expression of interest process and appointed for a three-year term by the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978. Bellarine Bayside currently generates approximately $7 million in direct revenue annually, with approximately 90% of revenue generated as income from the six camping reserves. Other income is derived from a range of sources including lease, licence and permit fees. Revenue is supplemented by grants that are used for specific projects; however, no recurrent funding is received from commonwealth, state or local government. All incoming funds are utilised in the delivery of Bellarine Bayside’s functions and programs to preserve and protect the natural coastal environment and to provide high quality infrastructure along the coastal reserve for the benefit of community members, campers and visitors.
