Together with Prof. Dr. Günter Groß from the Institute of Meteorology and Climatology at the University of Hanover, the mesoscale model FITNAH-3D is used and optimized for the calculation of wind fields and climatic parameters. With more than projects in more than 50 countries worldwide, GEO-NET shows its long time and global experience in wind and energy yield assessments, wind atlases and wind measurements with LiDAR and masts. Daten über den Zustand der Umwelt zu erheben, Zusammenhänge zu erforschen, Prognosen für die Zukunft zu erstellen und mit diesem Wissen die Bundesregierung, wie etwa das Bundesumweltministerium, für ihre Politik zu beraten, ist unser Auftrag. Aber auch die Öffentlichkeit in Umweltfragen zu informieren und für Ihre Fragen da zu sein, gehört zu unseren Aufgaben. Darüber hinaus vollziehen wir Umweltgesetze, setzen sie also in der Praxis um. Beispiele hierfür sind der Emissionshandel sowie die Zulassung von Chemikalien, Arznei- und Pflanzenschutzmitteln. Die Aufgaben des UBA sind im Gesetz über die Errichtung eines Umweltbundesamtes festgelegt. Das UBA versteht sich als ein Frühwarnsystem, das mögliche zukünftige Beeinträchtigungen des Menschen und der Umwelt rechtzeitig erkennt, bewertet und praktikable Lösungen vorschlägt. Dazu forschen die Fachleute des Amtes in eigenen Laboren und vergeben Forschungsaufträge an wissenschaftliche Einrichtungen und Institute im In- und Ausland. Darüber hinaus sind wir Partner und Kontaktstelle Deutschlands zu zahlreichen internationalen Einrichtungen, wie etwa der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO). Der Deutsche Nachhaltigkeitspreis ist die nationale Auszeichnung für Spitzenleistungen der Nachhaltigkeit in Wirtschaft, Kommunen und Forschung. Mit sechs Wettbewerben, über 800 Bewerbern und Gästen zu den Abschlussveranstaltungen ist die Auszeichnung mit Abstand die größte ihrer Art in Europa. Der Preis wird seit 2008 jährlich vergeben von der Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis in Zusammenarbeit mit der Bundesregierung, kommunalen Spitzenverbänden, Wirtschaftsvereinigungen, zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen und Forschungseinrichtungen. Die Prämierung vorbildlicher Akteure und Projekte will den Wandel hin zu einer nachhaltigen Gesellschaft unterstützen. Sie zeigt, wie „Sustainability made in Germany“ erfolgreich den Herausforderungen der Nachhaltigkeit begegnen und gleichzeitig Wettbewerbschancen eröffnen kann. Das Jubiläum wird am 7. und 8. Dezember 2017 mit einer zweitägigen Veranstaltung in Düsseldorf begangen. Höhepunkt ist die Gala zur Verleihung des 10. Deutschen Nachhaltigkeitspreises, die in diesem Jahr in einem neuen Format stattfindet.
