Eco Island is a "Nature-based enterprise"(NBEs) using/cooperating with nature as a core element of our services. We represent a new holistic approach on how to integrate different ecosystem services like biodiversity, climate mitigation and resilience etc Our aim is to develop sustainable systemic solutions to combat challenges such as extreme weather events, climate change, drought, water contamination, loss of biodiversity and destruction of ecosystems. In long term pespective we aim to establish regenerative food production on floating farms to secure a healthy and local food production in regions suffering from water scarcity and loss of land caused by climate change. Eco Island offer a systemic solution inspired by the function of natural wetlands and have made it more efficient combining with principles from hydroponics and aquaponics. Hereby we offer a solution, which also has a positive impact on the water based ecosystems purifying water, while increasing liveability and health for the citizens leaving the natural ecosystems and the biodiversity in a better state, compared to before the intervention. We combine best practice from nature and technology – using the technology of Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTW) combined with carefully selected wetland plants. The FTW´s has great ability to handle polluted water whether being stormwater in the cities, run off from agriculture, wastewater from aquaculture, rainwater ponds etc. EcoSmart is our tech system consisting of on site sensors and a cloud based software system enabling us to show the data measured in water instantly on local devices such as tablets, mobile phones. This way we can monitor water quality remotely and monitor the effectiveness of the plant purification process as well as other water filtration processes installed. At the same time EcoSmart can be used as a management tool in handling stormwater, in wastewater treatment, aquaculture etc. optimizing the value for our customers.
