Hlutverk okkar er að veita hvatningu og fræðslu um sjálfbæra þróun byggðar með það að markmiði að umhverfisáhrif frá mannvirkjagerð-rekstri og niðurrifi séu lágmörkuð. Grænni byggð starfrækir faghópa á meðal aðildarfélaga, skipuleggur fræðsluviðburði, gefur út fræðsluefni og tekur þátt í rannsóknar- og þróunarverkefnum. Grænni byggð vill að hringrásarhagkerfið sé haft að leiðarljósi við byggingu, hönnun og rekstur á mannvirkjum. Jafnframt beitir Grænni byggð sér fyrir því að til séu umhverfisviðmið fyrir byggingar og skipulag á Íslandi og að þeim sé framfylgt. Grænni byggð hvetur einnig hið opinbera til þess að umbuna verkefnum sem uppfylla ákveðnar umhverfiskröfur með hagrænum hvötum. The organizations does this by educating, connecting, and motivating stakeholders involved in the urban planning and building sector. Since it was first established in 2010 The Green Building Council Iceland has worked towards it mission to: Inspire and empower people to work for the common goal of creating a healthy, sustainable environment that promotes well being for all. The organization now has about 40 members working towards their goal of making the building sector an active player in creating a more sustainable future and a healthier society.

As of January 2024, the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland (Landgræðslan) and the Icelandic Forest Service (Skógræktin) merged to form "Land and Forest Iceland." The two agencies were for about 116 years leaders for ecosystem restoration, soil conservation, sustainability and forestry in Iceland. Grænir skátar eru sérfræðingar í söfnun á skilagjaldskyldum umbúðum. Félagið er í eigu Bandalags íslenskra skáta og hefur starfað síðan 1989. Grænir skátar eru með móttökukassa víðsvegar um landið þar sem allir geta losað sig við dósir og gefið áfram. Fyrirtækjaþjónusta Grænna skáta sér svo um að sækja dósir til fyrirtækja og félagasamtaka og skila tilbaka sem peningagreiðsla. Allur ágóði af starfsemi Grænna skáta rennur óskert í heilbrigt uppeldis- og félagsstarf ungs fólks á vegum íslenskra skáta víðs vegar um landið.

Náttúrufræðistofnun er ríkisstofnun sem heyrir til umhverfis, orku- og loftslagsráðuneytisins. The new pages are https://landogskogur.is/ and here: Historic overview The Soil Conservation Service of Iceland (SCSI, Landgræðslan) was founded in 1907. It was a governmental agency under the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. It operated under the law of soil conservation (155/2018). The main tasks of the SCSI included combating desertification, sand encroachment and other soil erosion, promotion of sustainable land use and reclamation and restoration of degraded land. The work was on different levels, from policy making and research, to extension services and management of large- and small-scale reclamation projects. Ecosystem degradation is by far the largest environmental problem in Iceland. Vast areas have been desertified after over-exploitation – the speed of erosion magnified by volcanic activity and harsh weather conditions. SCSI was dedicated to the prevention of erosion and to reclamation of eroded land. SCSI promoted sustainability and ecosystem approach to revegetation and climate mitigation. The SCSI work covered: Land protection, Sustainability, Climate mitigation, Research and development, Public relations and Administration.
