Rising SheFarmers is a social impact startup that empowers rural self-help women groups to farm mushrooms for income. We apply a model called Market Oriented Mushrooms farming (MOM Farming) as a poverty-alleviation model which aims at providing women with practical and technical skills to make income through climate-smart and vertical mushroom farming. We use locally available materials such as thatched to construct the growing room, an affordable, eco-friendly, and environmentally friendly roofing material. It is easy to grow and harvest, and minimal equipment is required for harvesting. Also, thatch is plentiful and regrows quickly, so we are confident that we are working with a sustainable construction material whose harvest is not harming the environment.
