SULINKIAI PEAT BOG Our history starts in 1938 as company was founded to provide quality peat fuel. Now it is a family run business operating peat bogs in the central and southern parts of Lithuania with strong positions in production of peat and peat based growing media for greenhouses, garden centers, landscapers, mushroom growers and sales in Europe and other parts of the world. Our products are marketed under “Suliflor” brand name. We are member of Lithuanian Peat producers Association which is associated member of EPAGMA – The European Peat and Growing Media Association, IPS – International Peat Society. Growing media production is based on peat moss harvested on „Sulinkiai“ peat bog. Peat moss is harvested during May – August by method of surface milling. Peat is harvested by special harvesters and heaped into stock piles. Peat moss harvesting on „Sulinkiai“ peat bog is carried out responsibly, strictly following general licence, permissions, harvesting limits, other regulations issued by Lithuanian Ministry of Environment, Geological Survey and other state authorities. Here is after-use plan (after peat extraction is finished) prepared for Sulinkiai peat bog, corresponding the environmental standards of peat production with priority for biodiversity and restoration of peat growth.

Agrolinija began to develop business in Kaisiadoriu district in 2010, when has imported 63 purebred Angus breed heifers and three bulls from Germany, Saxony - Anhalt Cattle Breeders Association. In 2011 additional farm has imported 15 Angus and 50 Simmental bred heifers, and purchased two Angus bulls from Lithuania. Our cattle farming system conform with EU animal's welfare, health, veterinary and environmental requirements. The company develops Angus breed and Angus-Simmental cross-breeding for meat. Agrolinija is member of the Lithuanian Association of Lithuanian Beef Cattle Breeders (LMGAGA).

Its a project by our family to take back the responsibility to produce healthy food. We recognized the importance of animals to soil health, but it was a journey. We seek to revive and maintain grassland ecosystem by managing herd of cattle and omnivores. We use mob breeding and selection for more adapted animals to our environmental conditions. We learn by doing and observing. We were unaware how important is soil to produce food as we first tried to grow veggies and other plants in sandy soil which has been conventionally managed for 60+ years without many inputs. Failures and mistakes force to study analyze and then experiment. So we did and found out the soil lacked minerals, microbes and vitality. We tried many organic and mineral inputs in first years but to do it at scale, we understood, animals have to be involved and moved constantly. Everything started to green up. Managing animals is hard but the curiosity of how things change every year helps us to continue our journey. We also continue to research and produce various biological farming inputs that fastens regenerative processes.

Actinidia seedlings and fruits can be purchased at the farm. Actinidia, also called mini-kiwi, is a fruit that contains 1% of the total mass of vitamin C, which is 20 times more than in lemons and sauerkraut. Farm specialization - Actinidia. It covers an area of 3 ha. Part of this area is designated for a nursery, a collection of Actinidia varieties and seedlings. At the moment, Actinidia kolomikta: Landė, Paukštė Šakarva, dr Szymanowski, Sentiabrskaja. Pointed-leaved Actinidia arguta: Geneva, Ananasnaya, Jambo, Issai, Purpurna Sadowa, Kijevskaya Krupnoplodnaya, and many others. The main varieties that occupy the largest planted area are Lande, Geneva, Ananasnaya, and Kijevskaja Krupnoplodnaya. Actinidia kolomikta Landė is a very decorative liana, the fruits are small, about 3g, and fall to the ground when ripe. Ripe Actinidia fruits remain hanging on the vine until frost. Kijevskaja Krupnoplodnaja is an exceptionally large fruit, 14-16g sweet and with a taste similar to kiwi. Ananasnaja and Geneva are beautifully pink inside.
