The Freshness Lab is located in Lisbon in the logistic hub of Portugal, near the main ports, roads and railways, and airport. The Freshness Lab facilities are near the logistic warehouses of major food retailers, fruit and vegetable import-export businesses, the main service suppliers to the produce business, and the main Portuguese fruit and vegetable growing regions. We are the portuguese biggest farmer’s organization, with an area about ha, trading cereals and vegetables, for processing and fresh market. With our associates, and working together, we search not only innovating processes, but also technology to improve the quality of the products. This way we are involved since the selection of plants until the packging. All our producers are GlobalGAP certificated. In the cereals we are the biggest producer of maize and kernel (for popcorn). On the vegetables we do have a range of products, that we can work for industry or fresh market: onions, butternut squash, sweet potatos, tomatoes, potatos, peeper (caspicum), peas, broccoli, broad beans, nuts. And able to introduce new varieties depending the needs of our clients.

Frusoal - Frutas Do Sotavento Algarvio
If life gives us lemons, then we should make lemonade. And if the Algarve gives us citrus fruits, and the good ones, what do its farmers do? They get together and create the biggest Citrus Fruit Producer Organisation in Portugal. We started out in the 1980s as Frusoal – Frutas do Sotavento Algarve, Lda, at a time when around 70% of domestic citrus fruit production was already concentrated in the southernmost region of Portugal. We set up home on the land which has the best soil and climate conditions for growing citrus fruits and where the sun shines the brightest throughout 365 days of the year. Based in Vila Nova de Cacela, in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, we began working on 3rd May 1990, through the hands of 24 producers. At the time, our initial activity was focused on the production, packing, marketing and sale of citrus fruits in traditional markets, as well as other fruits, such as figs, and horticultural products to the national markets. Because unity bears fruit, in our three decades in business, our number of members has multiplied. From an initial production of tonnes per year, we have increased to over tonnes of citrus fruits, in a total area of around 1,500 hectares, spread across the Algarve. We are proud to be Portuguese, wholesale market leaders and with a prominent position in the main Portuguese food retail chains, but we are geared towards the world. Due to our geographic location, we can ensure the shortest possible delivery time and maximum freshness and quality. Because we are fresh fruit that ripens naturally on the tree. In recent years, in order to diversify production, we have invested in the production of persimmons, avocados and organic citrus fruits. We are the essence of our orchards at your table. O modelo de produção da HFM baseia-se, desde 1990, na regeneração dos solos e no restauro ecológico em sistema agroflorestal de produção de alimentos em sucessão e estratificação (árvores, arbustos e herbáceas). No monte da herdade operam sete micro-agro-industrias que fazem um uso eficiente e integrado dos recursos de silvicultura, agricultura, pecuária e horticultura numa lógica de multi-produção, conjugando os serviços ambientais com os serviços turísticos educacionais, como a restauração, o alojamento e a investigação. Desta multifuncionalidade resulta um conjunto de benefícios para a comunidade local e rural em redor (emprego, segurança alimentar, contemplação e lazer, convivência social, aprendizagem e formação). Todos os produtos HFM são, desde 2011, certificados em agricultura biológica.
