Gaining Ground
Gaining Ground is a nonprofit organic farm in Concord, Massachusetts. We grow organic produce for hunger relief with help from volunteers of all ages and abilities, who work and learn in our fields. In short, we grow food and we give it away to people who need it. For free. This refreshingly simple approach lets us focus on meeting the needs of our volunteers and the people we help feed. These two aspects of our work are closely intertwined – one wouldn’t work without the other. We work hard to grow high-quality produce, provide an exceptional experience to each volunteer, serve the needs of our recipients and maximize the generous support of our donors.

Goebbert's Farm & Garden Center
Goebbert's has been in the farm market business for 57 years. George Goebbert started a roadside vegetable stand in Arlington Heights. In 1972, Jim Goebbert bought the 40-acre farm in South Barrington and moved his family. Jim's three children started selling pumpkins on the roadside in 1978. It got so busy one Saturday, Jim had to close the Arlington Heights stand, to come home and help with the pumpkin sales. The fall festival was born. In 1979, Jim made us a destination farm by having the fiberglass pumpkin, “Happy Jack” made for the silo. Happy Jack measures 18ft wide, 15 ft tall and is a landmark for many people. In 1985, Jim purchased a second location in Hampshire Il. This 200-acre farm is open to the public in late Sept. thru Oct. for the fall festival. The rest of the year, we are busy greenhouse growing and farming vegetables that we sell in South Barrington. Currently, we are a seasonal operation running from mid April until October 31st. We transition from a garden center/nursery to a fresh produce stand to a full fall festival.
