Lebanese University - Faculty Of Sciences
The Faculty of Science is one of the first faculties of the Lebanese University. It was founded by Decree No. 2883 of December 16, 1959. The Faculty offers courses and programs leading to degrees in Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Life sciences, Biochemistry, Statistics, and Electronics. Since 2005, the faculty adopted the “LMD” academic system which organizes studies into three degrees: Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. The Faculty of Science has three major aims: 1. Transfer of knowledge: In order to evolve and modernize, the Lebanese society needs to train leaders in all fields of science. The Faculty of Science at the Lebanese University is the main player in the formation of these executives with the appropriate skills and strengths. Research Training: The University is the ideal environment for conducting research in fundamental and applied fields. This research should be devoted to solving problems inherent in our society and to enrich science with new knowledge. History & Mission From its establishment in 1939, Middle East University has strived to be a diverse institution, accepting and serving people from all cultures and backgrounds. As a higher-education institution operated by the global Seventh-day Adventist denomination, MEU is connected to the second largest Christian education system in the world. MEU was originally founded as the Adventist College of Beirut and located in Mouseitbeh. In 1946 the institution was relocated to its present location, in Sabtieh, Sad El-Bauchrieh. During the same year it was renamed Middle East College, and the cornerstone of what is now North Hall was laid by His Excellency Sheikh Bechara ElKhoury, then President of the Republic of Lebanon. In 1949, the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Learning granted the institution the accreditation to offer studies in higher education. On June 28, 2001, Middle East College was formally and legally renamed Middle East University. This significant development further validated the role of MEU as an important center of higher education for the people of Lebanon and the Middle East.
