Research Center For Islamic Legislation And Ethics Cile
The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) was established in January 2012 as a center that specializes in Islamic legislation and ethical thought with a focus on applied ethics in the fields of methodology, arts, environment, economics, education, food, gender, media, bioethics, migration & human rights, politics, and psychology. In line with its aim to serve a diverse global audience of experts, activists, practitioners, students, and common people, over the past decade CILE has hosted a variety of intellectual and interdisciplinary programs from seminars, to summer schools, to international conferences, and more, and has engaged in numerous funded research projects, seminars, and conferences around the world in its efforts to address contemporary universal issues and challenges from a contextualized Islamic ethical lens. Located in Doha, Qatar, CILE is affiliated with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and serves as an integral part of the College of Islamic Studies (CIS).

Sports Impact Researchers
We are a team of researchers interested in investigation the impact of organizing mega events on capacity building in two main sectors: higher education and national sports organizations (NSO) in Qatar. The project specific research objectives are to: 1. Examine the process of capacity building and intangible legacy creation within NSO/HE resulting from mega sport events activities; 2. Analyze how different publics (students, academics, officials and organizations) perceive and engage with mega events; 3. Critically evaluate the structural changes (i.e, personal, organizational, social and political) as a result of interactions stimulated by mega events; 4. Develop a methodology for measuring capacity building and intangible legacy of mega sport events within the higher education, non-profit and sport sectors. Qatar organizes more than 80 sports events per year. The study utilizes a longitudinal (three years) multiple cases research design from 2023 to 2025 and will capture three different sport events including the Handball Asia Olympic Qualifiers in 2023, World Athletics Diamond League 2024 and FINA World Cup 2025. These events have different appeal and resource mobilization potential thus, allowing for comparisons and trends identification. We will capture the social interactions stimulated by mega sporting events, the resource exchanges taking place, organizational capacity building (i.e, skills, knowledge, networks, policy and governance) and the intangible impacts of the events. We will study all National Sports Organizations (NSO) and higher education institutions in Qatar. This has never been achieved before and would represent a major contribution to NDS and international sport federations strategies to enhance the global appeal of sport and its impact on societies and individuals.

Established in 2005, the Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS) at Georgetown University in Qatar is a premier research institute devoted to the academic study of regional and international issues through dialogue and exchange of ideas, research and scholarship, and engagement with national and international scholars, opinion makers, practitioners, and activists. Guided by the principles of academic excellence, forward vision, and community engagement, the CIRS mission revolves around five principal goals: provide a forum for scholarship and research on international and regional affairs; encourage in-depth examination and exchange of ideas; foster thoughtful dialogue among students, scholars, and practitioners of international affairs; facilitate the free flow of ideas and knowledge through publishing the products of its research, sponsoring public lectures, and holding working groups designed to explore the complexities of the twenty-first century; engage in outreach activities with a wide range of local, regional and international partners. CIRS’s research is organized under two thematic clusters. In addition to a core focus on Regional Studies, the center also carries out projects under the vital and timely theme of Global American Studies. While the primary goal is to work closely with scholars to produce rigorous academic work on these topics, CIRS engages broadly with public audiences and seeks to disseminate knowledge to multiple local and international stakeholders and communities of interest.
