Livroteca Books
Livroteca is a library with books in Portuguese for children. Livroteca offers Portuguese language learning and information literacy, as well as opportunities for cultural connection between carers and children. Livroteca wants to support affective experiences for those who want to bring home or keep alive the Brazilian culture.* LIVROTECA'S STORY Livroteca is a project created in 2023 by Marina Cabral, a librarian and journalist who has been in Brisbane since 2016. Her desire to preserve the heritage language at home motivated Marina to start the library, thinking about families who, like hers, want to keep close relatives' affection and the Brazilian culture's traditions through what she loves: reading for each other. Reading, listening, and exchanging stories bring emotional connection and facilitate deep language learning, considered the most effective way to absorb new words and information. Livroteca's books are now available for easy access to Portuguese reading resources, enabling parents and children to spend valuable quality time together.* WHO CAN BECOME A MEMBER? Livroteca membership is free to children enrolled to Era Uma Vez project (term classes - 9 weeks). Members can access Livroteca's collection of books and become part of our community of readers. Every member can also check Livroteca's online catalogue at any time to see what is available and put books and magazines on hold.
