Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a transparent, durable, and versatile plastic. It is also the most widely recyclable plastic. Opting for recycled PET instead of virgin plastic significantly lowers environmental impact —it cuts total energy consumption by 75% and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 65%. With the growing accumulation of PET waste, the need for efficient recycling processes became evident. At Terraloop, we believe that plastic waste is not a problem, but an opportunity. This urgent need is what drives Terraloop’s mission: to bridge the gap between sustainability and economic growth, proving that recycling can be both profitable and essential for the planet. We use cutting-edge technology and responsible production practices to unlock the full potential of recycled PET (rPET), reducing environmental impact while delivering high-quality products. Located in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal, Terraloop is set to begin production in Q4 2025 with an estimate production of tons/month, positioning itself as a leader in the circular economy. Our team comes from diverse backgrounds, united by a common purpose: to redefine the way plastic is valued and recycled. At our core, we are driven by sustainability, integrity, and innovation. The name LAFITTE shares a strong history with the cork world. The first LAFITTE cork stopper manufacturing facility was created in 1918, in the southwest of France. This same facility housed, a few years later, the capsules factory COLIEGE METALCO EMBALLAGES. For 5 generations, the LAFITTE family has endeavored to develop their activities at the service of the wine industry. Thus, in 1956, a new factory was built in Portugal, for better control of the raw materials. In 1982 the LAFITTE group expanded and established LAFITTE CORK AND CAPSULES in Napa, California, to meet the needs of the rising American market. Later, in 2001 and 2009 respectively, LAFITTE CHILE CORCHOS and METALCO CHILE were created to provide locally to the South American cork stopper and capsule market. Group LAFITTE and all its entities have evolved harmoniously toward the continuous improvement of its processes.
