Polembros Shipping is a family-owned ship management company based in Athens, Greece, dedicated to the safe and efficient management of ocean-going vessels. The company began operating in its present form in London in 1974, though the family has been in shipping, as captains, chief engineers, and ship-managers since the 19th century. The Polembros Group currently manages a fleet of bulk carriers and tankers, ranging from Handysize to Newcastlemax and from Aframax to Suezmax. In the ‘70s, we established ourselves as pioneers in the oil transportation industry after transporting the first North Sea oil and later the first British oil ever produced. Polembros continued to carry to shore the entire production from Argyll field until the field closed in 1992. Later in the ‘80s, we used our offshore shuttle tanker operation expertise to serve the expanding Brazilian oil industry. In 1982 a Polembros vessel was the first foreign ship to load from Brazil’s offshore fields. The Polembros Brazilian shuttle tanker fleet then grew to boast 8 vessels. In the 1990s and we saw the rise of China and looked to the East. While still maintaining a global presence we developed deeper relations with the Far East and substantially grew our dry bulk fleet in order to meet the demands of a rapidly growing China. In the 2010s, Polembros embarked on a vigorous fleet renewal program, placing orders for 13 dry bulk vessels. We also renewed our tanker fleet by acquiring 5 second-hand vessels and 5 newbuildings, positioning ourselves to better service our clients across the globe and their ever-changing needs. We are devoted to continuously improving our service and particularly committed to ensuring our ships are operated safely and efficiently, with capable and reliable marine personnel.
