Tutapona
Tutapona is a Christ-centered organization that provides mental health services for people impacted by war or conflict. We work in Uganda and Iraq and see a measurable reduction in trauma symptomatology, increased well-being, and resilience to face future challenges. Tutapona's local staff provides a range of programmatic activities in a linguistically and culturally relevant way: an adult-focused, group mental health program, a group-based children's curriculum, individual therapeutic support, MHPSS training and mainstreaming, and an Online Advanced Certificate course in trauma-focused interventions. Our adult group program called GROW is based on the therapeutic concept of Post-traumatic growth (PTG), which describes the experience of individuals whose development has not only survived but goes beyond the previous status quo. It also utilizes elements of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy. The emphasis is not on retelling the traumatic event itself, but rather is focused on the positive growth that can occur post-trauma. There are nine sessions facilitated over a two-week period with a follow-up program occurring three months after the conclusion of the program. Our child-focused, growth program Heroes Journey is designed for war-affected children who are in the middle years of development. The nine sessions seek to develop hope, belief, gratitude, kindness, and the courage to forgive through highly interactive, child-friendly activities such as games, stories, songs, play and art. The program utilizes elements of CBT, Mindfulness and Shame Resilience Theory, among other interventions to empower participants to process their experience and develop positive coping practices. A critical facet of the program is the provision of coaching for parents and teachers to assist them to help empower participants as they recover and develop after traumatic events.

Dromedic Health Care
In Africa, approximately 100 million people suffer from depression. For African women, depression is the number one cause of disability. Yet, 85% percent of people suffering from depression in Africa – including 66 million women – have no access to effective treatment. The urgency to derive and test new interventions to increase the early detection and treatment of depression is accentuated by the fact that they often remain undiagnosed, misdiagnosed or untreated often due to the stigma associated with mental health diseases in Uganda. Inadequate attention to mental health in the public sector has resulted in a meager estimated ratio of 2-3 psychiatrists per million people. Less than 5% of the national budget is spent on health care, with the amount allocated for mental health being less than 2% of the total budget. Approximately 72% of total health expenditure is funded privately, of which 92% are out-of-pocket expenses. Dromedic works to increase Access to Integrated Mental Health Care through A Community-Based Approach, Utilizing mHealth. We integrate a community based program that improves mental health outcomes for patients through 1) positive, supportive SMS messages and 2) the triage of patients for treatment provided by trained community mental health workers.

People Under Search For Hope
Overview of People Under Search For Hope (PUSH) is a youth-led national organization established in 2020 and registered in 2023 as a non-governmental organization in Uganda. PUSH offers support and healing to refugees and youth who have experienced trauma. PUSH recognizes the power of art and storytelling as therapy to help individuals cope with difficult experiences. PUSH combines the Western approach to mental health with culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and contextually accessible methods of healing in order to provide refugees and youth with effective psychosocial support. PUSH also hosts an annual essay contest for refugees from across Africa to share their personal stories. Problem Statement: Access to mental health services is a challenge for young people globally, with only 12% having access to psychosocial support. This is particularly concerning given that 74% of youth deal with mental health issues daily. The issue is compounded for refugees fleeing violence and conflict, with less than 1% on average in Africa able to access psychosocial support. This alarming statistic shows the urgent need for innovative and accessible solutions to address the mental health crisis affecting refugees.

Psych Care Uganda
Psych Care Uganda is a registered, youth-led community-based organization dedicated to promoting the mental health and holistic wellbeing of adolescents and young people in Uganda. Officially registered in 2024, our formation was driven by a shared concern among young mental health advocates over the rising challenges affecting adolescents, especially in rural communities that don't have access to mental health support. The organization has grown into a dynamic force championing preventive and early intervention programs for adolescents aged 10–24 years. Rooted in the belief that empowered adolescents are key to transforming communities, we work to ensure that young people regardless of their background have access to the knowledge, skills, and support they need to thrive mentally, emotionally, socially, and academically and impact their communities. Our programs are community-centered, evidence-informed, and youth-driven, reflecting our deep commitment to sustainable change and inclusive development. Through school-based and community outreach initiatives, we focus on Prevention, Early intervention and Capacity building for adults to support young people and strengthen support systems. Our growing team of passionate young leaders, volunteers, and mental health professionals collaborates with schools, health centers, local leaders, and Inter/national networks to build safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for young people. We believe in leveraging the strengths within communities to create lasting impact. As we look ahead, Psych Care Uganda remains committed to scaling mental health support programs in more underserved communities, building strategic partnerships, and contributing to a Uganda where mental health can be prioritized, accessed, and adolescents holistically empowered to contribute to their communities.

Reborn Minds
Reborn Minds is a local fully registered non-government organization with a focus of promoting positive mental health. It was established on 15th January 2019 with the overall objective of contributing towards improving the state of mental health among vulnerable youth who are less likely to access mental health services as compared to the rest of the population. The organization’s target beneficiaries are youth from key populations, young people living with HIV, young people living with disabilities and teenage mothers living in urban areas of the central region in Uganda. Reborn minds primarily uses group talk therapy and engagement in group activities to provide mental health support to these community members. Our vision is to create a society where mental wellness is a concern for everyone. Since inception, we have executed three successful mental health awareness campaigns funded by a combination of contributions from team members, close friends and relatives that are passionate about mental health. These campaigns have had significant impact on our target groups within Kampala, powered by use of the organization’s social media channels to increase the reach of our message.
