Torun Symphony Orchestra
In 2016, the Toruń Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 37th anniversary. It was founded as the Toruń Chamber Music Orchestra in the artistic season of 1978/79 and performed under the auspices of the City of Toruń since 1990. The orchestra has gained a firm standing among many other cultural institutions in our town. This is due to the concerts performed in Toruń as well as at numerous tourneés, both in Poland and abroad. In the course of their artistic activity, the orchestra played in most of Polish cities, in many European countries (e.g. Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, Italy, France, Belarus, Lithuania), at many prestigious festivals. The orchestra is especially proud of a one-month tourneé in China, two concerts at the Opera Gala in Pamplona, as well as the concert at the Cirque Royal in Brussels (in October 2010). Among the significant achievements of the Toruń Orchestra is the International Summer Festival ‘Music and Architecture’ (organized every year since 1997). Every July and August, the concerts at the festival gather large audiences in the historic interiors of Toruń monuments and present the art of eminent conductors and extraordinarily talented soloists. In July 2010, the Toruń Symphony Orchestra accompanied José Carreras at his performance in the Toruń Motoarena. The orchestra has performed at a number of Polish and European festivals and recorded for the Polish Radio and Television and for the Radio Suisse Romande. In 1996, still as the Toruń Chamber Music Orchestra, the orchestra recorded the album ‘Famous Classical Miniatures’ conducted by Jerzy Salwarowski and in 1997, a monography of the music by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. The general director of the Toruń Symphonic Orchestra currently gathering 61 musicians is Marek Czekała.

The Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre For Music
The Krzysztof Penderecki European Center for Music is a non-profit organization focusing on the performing arts and education. With the concert hall designed for an impeccable acoustic experience and seating up to 700 patrons, a 210-square-meter stage and a terrace intended for open-air concerts, the Center has become a hub of performing arts and cultural activities within the local communities and beyond. Each year the Center organizes approximately 150 different projects, including Emanacje Festival, one of the largest music events in Poland, hosts around performers and gathers an audience of listeners. Additionally, the Center collaborates with the recording labels helping release 10 music albums in 2014 only. The Center for Music is deeply invested in education, making teaching and learning its most important endeavor. The campus houses a lecture hall, 14 rehearsal rooms, a library, a recording studio, a chamber hall and accommodation facilities for performers, students and lecturers. Throughout the year the Center arranges workshops, seminars and masterclasses in performance, conducting and composition for the most gifted musicians of all ages, and invites globally renowned performers to work with the students. The list of former lecturers and long-term partners includes such acclaimed artists as the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin or the Apollon Musagete Quartett. The comprehensive education program focuses on the development of technique and skill of interpretation, as well as on history, philosophy and aesthetics of music. The mastermind behind the project and the patron of the Center is the composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki. It was his goal to create a platform for education where students are able to establish close connections with artists and scholars, which in turn serves as a stepping stone towards a further intellectual and creative exploration in an attempt to achieve complete artistic maturity.
