The Cord

Started in 1926 as the College Cord, The Cord is an editorially independent newspaper hitting news stands every Wednesday. The paper prides itself on providing quality reporting about issues that matter to students. Keep up-to-date with the Laurier campus and surrounding community through this weekly paper. The Cord also has daily news updates to its website, along with photo galleries, blogs, interactive polls and entertainment reviews. The Cord is a part of Wilfrid Laurier University Student Publications, a volunteer-based, not-for-profit media group based out of Wilfrid Laurier University.

The Gleaner

Founded in 1863, the Huntingdon Gleaner was owned by various family businesses for most of its history. Even though it was a private business, local ownership conveyed the title of ‘community newspaper’ as was typical across Canada. As happened with the majority of print media outlets around that time, The Gleaner became part of a larger chain in 1985, and saw various owners over the years. In 2018, the owner, Gravité Média, reached out to the local community to see if there was any interest in acquiring the title. Shortly thereafter, a non-profit organization was formed to revive the publication and return it to its roots as a true community newspaper. The June 5, 2019 relaunch of The Gleaner with a souvenir print edition served as an important step towards regular publication in order to serve the residents of Quebec's Chateauguay Valley again. Five editions were published that year and distributed at no charge to local residents at community events. In January 2020, The Gleaner began publishing on a biweekly basis. It is distributed via Canada Post to paid subscribers and available for purchase at retailers around the Chateauguay Valley.

The Griff

We’re MacEwan University’s student publication. We cover the latest goings-on around the city centre campus, Edmonton’s downtown core, and whatever else matters to MacEwan students. Our team is composed of journalists, writers, and creatives. We care about supplying MacEwan with honest reporting, quality media, and good vibes. The Griff has been around since 2011 as a campus newspaper before becoming a magazine in 2015. We currently print seven issues from September to April, excluding December.

The Other Press

The Other Press has been Douglas College’s student newspaper since 1976. Since 1978 we have been an autonomous publication, independent of the student union. We are a registered society under the Society Act of British Columbia, governed by an eight-person board of directors appointed by our staff. Our head office is located in the New Westminster campus. The Other Press is published weekly during the fall and winter semesters, and monthly during the summer. We receive our funding from a student levy collected through tutition fees every semester at registration, and from local and national advertising revenue. The Other Press is a member of the Canadian University Press (CUP), a syndicate of student newspapers that includes papers from all across Canada.
