ASSITEJ South Africa connects and supports theatre practitioners, companies, organisations, institutions and schools across the country, who share a belief in the transformative difference that theatre and the performing arts make in the lives of children and young people, inspiring imaginations, shifting perceptions, teaching empathy and building our nation. It is the national centre for ASSITEJ (the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People), which works in around 100 countries across the world and was founded in 1965 in Paris. ASSITEJ SA serves to build the sector of theatre for young audiences in South Africa through supporting and developing the network of artists, empowering education through the performing arts, creating strategies for access to the arts, and advocating for the role of the arts as an essential right of every child and young person. As a network organisation, ASSITEJ SA brings together all those working in the arts and arts education for the benefit of children and youth, from township youth with a passion for the arts to the most resourced theatres in our country. It is served by an experienced, hard working and talented board and staff, and has a pool of diverse and effective facilitators coming from its membership. As a result of this combined expertise, ASSITEJ SA is the acknowledged leader in Arts education in South Africa, and a partner of the Department of Basic Education in delivering the Creative Arts curriculum. In 2017, ASSITEJ SA successfully hosted the 19th ASSITEJ World Congress and Performing Arts Festival in Cape Town – the first time this prestigious event was held on African soil; a game-changing and transformative advocacy opportunity for TYA on the continent. This 12 day event hosted 1390 official delegates (theatre professionals) attended, coming from 84 countries.

DARKROOM CONTEMPORARY Dance Theatre is a project based company formed as vehicle to reimagine dance, through its innovative approach to staging and presenting contemporary works. Darkroom Contemporary challenges perceptions on how dance is viewed, by creating unique audience experiences and new ways of representing and appreciating dance. The company regularly stages works in unexpected performance areas, transforming ordinary spaces into intriguing, multi-faceted arenas. An extensive & award winning body of dance film works exist alongside the company’s performance repertoire, making their work accessible to a larger global audience through the medium of film and digital media. Darkroom Contemporary continuously explores new avenues to make dance accessible to all, through its artistic output, educational and developmental initiatives. The organisation was founded in 2010 by Louise Coetzer and Oscar O’Ryan. Coetzer, a dancer and choreographer, and O’Ryan, a photographer and filmmaker, bring together expertise from their respective fields to form a dynamic partnership. Projects spearheaded by the founders provide platforms and create opportunities for skills development and exchange among all artists involved. A focus on the use of new technology and digital media frame their artistic approach. Similarly does interdisciplinary exploration, with project collaborators including visual artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers and digital artists. National Youth Jazz Festival
The National Youth Jazz Festival has become one of the most significant jazz development programmes in South Africa, annually bringing together over 300 students and 40 teachers from diverse backgrounds from all over South Africa and abroad, with nearly 60 professional jazz musicians and educators. The festival lasts nearly a week, incorporating innovative jazz performance, rehearsals, workshops, lectures, networking and an opportunity for South Africa’s future jazz stars to interact personally and musically with their peers and the country’s top performers. The philosophy of the NYJF is to promote the development of jazz in South African by providing vibrant, excellent educational opportunities for young players; by encouraging artistic integrity and creativity on the world-class Main Jazz Stage; by acknowledging our country’s jazz heritage; by creating a forum for South African musicians to network with peers from around the country and the world; and by providing audiences with unique, quality jazz.

Russian School Of Ballet Since 2009
Since its foundation in 2009 by Yana Аuger, the Russian School of Ballet (RSB) remains one of the leading ballet schools in Johannesburg. With the ultimate goal to instil a love of dance in every student while helping them achieve their unique ballet dreams, it offers classes for boys and girls from the age of three through pre-professional training. 3-4 years old: Creative dance 5-7 years old: Pre-ballet 7-9 years old: Level 0 As from 9 years old: Pre-professional ballet training with classes in- Repertoire - Character Dance - Contemporary Dance - Modern - Jazz At the school, the highly qualified teachers use the Vaganova ballet technique and training system. On one hand, the programme based on this unique method permits the students to progress in a safe, systematic way, while on the another, it takes into account the children's unique anatomy, physical and cognitive development.

Shakespeare Schools Festival South Africa
The SSF SA is an education program, aimed at improving language and social skills through the Performing Arts. It is Educape’s flagship initiative, launched in 2010 by Kseniya Filinova-Bruton, to strengthen the link between the Arts and education. Since inception, the SSF SA has gone from 20 to participating youth and Learners across the Western Cape, Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape. SSF SA has subsequently showcased 316 Shakespeare plays across South Africa, working with 6736 pupils from 321 schools. We have built the capacity of 510 teachers as drama and performance arts directors.

I have over 20 years’ experience teaching, instructing and choreographing dance from the basics of movement, leading to advanced dance and the foundations of various styles such as modern, hip-hop, street, contemporary, tap, ballet and jazz. My studio is a space in which dancers can express themselves. Our main aim is to have fun while developing the skills and artistry to become great dancers/performers. Dancers can work towards entering accredited examinations and competitions or can be part of the Dance Academy family merely for the love of dance. From a young age children love the freedom of dance and music and this is encapsulated in my teaching methods. Discipline, hard work and passion is vital in the life of a dancer and in order to display this, all levels of dancers get the opportunity to showcase their achievements in the Academy production.
