Goldeneye Eu H2020-Project
Golden AI for intelligent mining: Safe, sustainable and cost-efficient mining with EO, UAV and Proximal data fusion-The Goldeneye project combines information from different remote sensing and positioning technologies to collect high-resolution data of the mine. The project exploits Earth observation and Earth GNSS positioning data together with data fusion utilizing data from proximity sensors. The data is gathered into Golden AI platform, which combines the information from satellites, drones and in-situ sensors and converts the information into actionable intelligence for safety, environmental monitoring and overall productivity. Data analytic methods and machine-learning algorithms are used to process the data and transfer the information into easily understandable form. The platform created during this project will allow for efficient mineral exploration, mineral extraction and mine site closure-

Leh Laboratory Of Experimental Hematology
The Laboratory of Experimental Hematology is headed by Prof. Zwi Berneman. LEH has a track record on the induction of anti-tumoral and antiviral cellular immune responses by a special subset of leukocytes, called dendritic cells. In the coming years LEH will focus on the mechanisms of T cell immunity and tolerance by studying the immunobiology of dendritic cells. More specifically, they want to elucidate the cellular processes and interactions involved in the activation of effector T cells by antigen-presenting cells that are able to destroy tumor cells and virally infected cells or, in case of auto-immunity, normal cells in the body, such as in Multiple Sclerosis. For the former, activation of effector lymphocytes (T cells, NK cells) with killing activities towards cancer cells and virally infected cells is pursued through interaction with immunostimulatory dendritic cells (Tumor Immunology Group (TIGR) headed by prof. Viggo Van Tendeloo). For the latter, modulation of auto-immune effector T cell function by naturally occurring and induced regulatory T cell subsets is one of their primary research interests coordinated by Dr. Nathalie Cools. In collaboration with CEV, LEH will investigate cellular immunity in vaccinees and a possible correlation with the humoral response characterised by antibody formation. They also have a great expertise in phase I therapeutic vaccination programmes in leukaemia, HIV and allotransplant patients using autologous antigen-loaded dendritic cell vaccines. They also run a large research programme on stem cell immunology, headed by Dr. Peter Ponsaerts, in which they are interested in the transplantation effects of autologous and allogeneic adult stem cells in small animal models in order to study the survival, migration and function of transplanted stem cells (headed by prof. Peter Ponsaerts).

Shells & Valves
Our mission is to innovate in aquaculture practices, ensuring that we can meet today’s demand for seafood without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. It is important that the aquaculture developments are verified against the planetary boundaries in order to create a net-positive effect. Increasing biodiversity is key to close the natural nutrient cycles and we look at alternative aquaculture systems that can contribute to closing those cycles, so that less external input (nutrients, energy, chemicals and materials) is needed and less waste and pollution is produced. We believe that this approach will lead to the restoration of ecosystems and their functionality. Within the European context, the creation of Multi-Use Platforms is key in developing a sustainable offshore aquaculture sector. MUPs offer the possibility of optimizing the use of marine space, reducing conflicts among different users, and promoting sustainable and synergistic interactions between various ocean-based activities. We focus in particular on the integration of aquaculture and passive fisheries with the production of wind energy and nature restoration. In this way, it is possible to create more sustainable and resilient food production systems that take into account the health of the environment and the well-being of local communities.
