This European consortium, comprising 27 partners across 13 countries, aims to identify early T1D indicators in children from the general population. T1D, impacting millions globally, necessitates a paradigm shift in management, as current screening strategies predominantly focus on familial history despite 90% of new cases lacking these links. The project's objectives are ambitious: to screen European children for early-stage T1D, evaluate the impact across diverse health systems, refine biomarkers for better risk assessment, and develop innovative therapeutic strategies. EDENT1FI also emphasizes public and professional education about T1D care advancements. The EDENT1FI consortium has been initiated by - Prof. Chantal Mathieu, of KU Leuven in Belgium - Prof. Mark Peakman, representing Sanofi - Prof. Anette Ziegler, Director of the Institute of Diabetes Research at Helmholtz Munich, German Research Center for Environmental Health - Carmen Hurtado del Pozo, representing Breakthrough T1D The project's €23.5 million budget primarily stems from Horizon Europe, the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, JDRF, EFPIA, MedTech, and UK Research and Innovation. Patient involvement through a dedicated advisory committee ensures that the project remains aligned with the needs and perspectives of those affected by T1D. Imagx
ImagX is a multi-disciplinary team with competence in medical physics, signal processing, radiation oncology, and software development. The research environment provides a smooth connection between academic and industrial research. Links with IBA treatment centres ensure close contact with the clinical world. Aiming to develop advanced solution for image and dose guided proton therapy our research is directed along two main axes:(1) reduction of range uncertainties and (2) treatment of mobile tumours. Proton therapy kills cancer cells by delivering proton beams to the tumour. Opposite to conventional radiation therapy, proton beams deposit their maximum energy within a precisely defined range, known as the Bragg peak. Owing to the finite range, the integral dose of a proton treatment is much lower than in conventional therapy. This results in better quality of life after treatment. UCL and IBA are reinforcing their long-standing collaboration by founding a new research unit, called iMagX. The research unit is composed of the UCL’s IC-TEAM group on the Louvain-La-Neuve campus, the UCL’s MIRO group at the St Luc hospital in Brussels, and the research group of IBA. The collaboration successfully researched and engineered FDA approved in room imaging solutions that are now sold as products to IBA’s clients.

Lourim
The Louvain Research Institute in Management and Organizations (LouRIM) is devoted to theoretical and applied, empirical and experimental studies of management of private and public organizations, including but not limited to research on internal and external functional management processes that are present in all enterprises and organizations. This is why the Institute mobilizes around 30 faculty members and 70 researchers from the fields of economics, information system science, operations research, psychology and sociology to address management questions of societal and economic relevance. The Institute enables creative and high-impact research, effective doctoral training and attract external financing.
