Psm Lab Emi, Earthing & Corrosion - Ucy
The Power System Modelling (PSM) Laboratory operates under the auspices of the ECE department of the University of Cyprus. It has been formally established in 2013 and its primary expertise lies in the area of Electrical Control and Analysis of DC/AC Interference & Corrosion. PSM (EMI, Earthing and Corrosion) lab has gained a world-wide recognition in this area by publishing research results in top quality research journals and by providing modelling solutions and evaluation tools for a number of sound projects across the world. Some examples of these projects include the: a) DC Stray Current Corrosion Design for Thessaloniki’s New Metro System - Greece (2014), b) AC/DC Interference Analysis and Mitigation Design for Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) section Kavala – Albania (2016) and c) DC Stray Current Corrosion Analysis of a Tram-Train Project between Sheffield and Rotherham (UK). By virtue of its research activities and expert knowledge, PSM maintains close collaboration with industry and has secured industrial funding in the order of 0.5 million in the last couple of years. In particular, PSM lab has collaborated and maintains close collaboration links with Intertek, Network Rail UK, National Grid UK, Alstom Grid UK, Ansaldo (IT), J&P (GR), Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) operator, ELEMKO, SA (GR), Distribution System Operator of Cyprus and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus.

One of the central fields of action of the Institute aspires to be the organization, undertaking and participation in bi-community actions, research, and studies, with the aim of the peaceful reunification of our homeland. At the same time, we consider the development of critical thinking in Cyprus to be an important prerequisite both for achieving the goal of reunification and for the democratic and peaceful education of Cypriots. Hybland-Eu Research Project Marie Sklodowska-Curie
This project has received funding from the ’ research and innovation programme under the - grant agreement. The “” project will develop a novel method for the construction of landslide susceptibility and hazard maps using as testbed the Paphos District. The methodology will be based on the use of classical geotechnical research and modern Earth Observation technologies in a combination of multimodal determinist and Machine Learning approaches. The produced maps will identify with high reliability the areas which are susceptible to landslides. These results will help the decision-makers in taking the most suitable preventive measures and management actions towards protecting the built environment and securing sustainable urban development. The primary research interests of include engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, natural disasters and land use planning. The graduation of from a five-year based program as a Mining and Metallurgy Engineer (NTUA) was followed by two MSc degrees in the ‘Design and construction of underground works’ (Mining Engineering, NTUA) and in ‘Technoeconomic systems” (Electrical Engineering, NTUA). The latter provided him with valuable knowledge on project management and administration. The researcher holds a PhD in the field of Engineering Geology, and has proven his capacity to produce quality results, which have been published in high-impact scientific journals. He has an excellent knowledge and experience in soil and rock mechanics laboratory testing, Natural Hazards risk assessment and the use of numerical modelling programs (such as Plaxis 3D). During his postdoctorat he had the opportunity to work on the validation of the Earth Observation techniques (EOT).
