Smartfactory Kaiserslautern
Die SmartFactory-KL ist ein Forschungs- und Industrienetzwerk, das auf drei Säulen ruht, einem Verein und zwei wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen. In der Technologie-Initiative SmartFactory KL e.V. sind Forschungsinstitute und Industrieunternehmen Mitglied. Der Verein steht für Fragen in industrieller Produktionsnähe, die in den wissenschaftlichen Forschungseinrichtungen Innovative Fabriksysteme (IFS) am DFKI und am Lehrstuhl Werkzeugmaschinen und Steuerung (WSKL) an der TU Kaiserslautern beantwortet werden. Seit 2019 ist Prof. Dr-Ing. Martin Ruskowski organisatorische und inhaltliche Klammer. Er ist Vorstandsvorsitzender des Vereins, Leiter des DFKI-Forschungsbereiches und Inhaber des Lehrstuhles. Die SmartFactory-KL bringt Stakeholder aus Industrie und Wissenschaft in einem einzigartigen Industrie 4.0-Netzwerk zusammen, um gemeinschaftlich Projekte zur Fabrik der Zukunft zu entwickeln und umzusetzen. 2019 überarbeitete das Netzwerk das Konzept von Industrie 4.0 und nannte das Update Production Level 4 (PL4). 2020 stellte die SmartFactoryKL den weltweit ersten PL4-Demonstrator vor. 2021 startete der Aufbau eines PL4 -Ökosystems an drei Standorten in Kaiserslautern. Hier testen Wissenschaftler in Zusammenarbeit mit Industrievertretern innovative Fertigungstechnologien in einer realitätsnahen Fabrikumgebung, die in den nächsten Jahren stetig in Richtung autonome Produktion weiterentwickelt werden soll. Der Verein ist seit 2020 an dem europäischen Netzwerk Gaia-X mit dem Forschungsprojekt smartMA-X beteiligt. Die PL4 - Demonstratorlandschaft spielt darin eine zentrale Rolle. 2016 ernannte das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie die SmartFactory-KL zum Konsortialführer des Mittelstand 4.0 - Kompetenzzentrums Kaiserslautern, welches KMU bei der Digitalisierung unterstützte. Seit 2021 wird das Projekt als Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Kaiserslautern weiter geführt.

The Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden is one of the globally leading university research facilities operating along the entire textile process chain, and at the same time one of the largest and most efficient institutes of the University of Excellence in Dresden. Its main tasks are to offer excellent education to students and PhD candidates, to conduct fundamental research as well as industry-related projects, to consistently consolidate interdisciplinary cooperation with industrial and other types of research facilities, and to ensure the practical transfer of research results. In order to successfully carry out various research projects, the ITM operates on a fully developed infrastructure with modern machine technology and equipment, which enables the rapid development of innovative technologies and products along the entire textile process chain. Research activities at the ITM are mainly focused on the fields of machinery, technology and product development (fiber composite materials, construction textiles, textile architecture, medical and bio-textiles, sensor network and functional textiles, ready-made products and preforming) and include, among others, the processing of fiber-based high-tech materials, in particular carbon, glass, aramide, steel and ceramic with a variety of different technologies, and the functionally integrated development of textile (semi-finished) products. In addition to these research activities, modeling and simulation of structures and processes along the entire textile process chain are conducted. This type of interdisciplinary activity demands in particular the development of innovative fiber and hybrid yarn constructions, 2D and 3D reinforcing semi-finished products, finishing and functionalization technologies as well as the according machinery.
