Gear Research Center Fzg
The Institute of Machine Elements and the Gear Research Center (FZG), features comprehensive facilities for examination and testing of machine elements, such as gears, bearings, synchronizations and Multidisk-Clutches. Based on the research results developed here during the past decades, the FZG is the leading international research institute for gears and transmissions today. The development of methods and tools for reliable determination of fatigue life, efficiency, and vibration characteristics of gears and transmission elements is in the focus of the research activities at the FZG. The implementation of the research is carried out in close cooperation with the industry, funded either through public research funding or industrial community research or direct industrial commission. The lectures and exercises in machine elements represent the basic training of mechanical engineering. In the lecture, the students learn to properly select machines and machine elements, to design them and to calculate their properties. This knowledge is then practically applied on design and calculation examples within the lecture-related exercises. A very important aspect in this is that the students learn to communicate in the "engineer’s language"- with 3D models and sketches. Practical relevance and topicality is also an important criterion for lectures with special subjects. Last but not least, this is ensured by lectures of executives from the industry.

Leibniz Institute For Financial Research Safe
The recent financial crisis has raised serious doubts about the self-stabilizing powers of financial markets. At the same time, societies and governments are confronted with pressing problems – such as the demographic change – for whose solution operative and innovative financial markets and institutions are indispensible. The Leibniz Institute SAFE analyzes the requirements for an optimal framework – a “sustainable architecture” – for financial markets and their agents. Because of the dynamic interplay of state regulation and market adjustments such a framework needs to be examined and improved continuously. This way, we will be able to, on the one hand, guarantee high stability and, on the other hand, stimulate the willingness and ability for innovation and competition. Traditional research on financial markets focuses on individual agents and issues. SAFE aggregates this knowledge of what happens on different markets not only within the traditional research areas of financial economics but also across these areas – for example to better understand systemic risks. SAFE focuses on Europe because Europe is lagging behind the U.S. with respect to research, knowledge transfer and policy advice in the area of financial markets. Financial research today includes European institutions only insufficiently. One reason for this is a shortage of European data. By creating a Data Center, that not only collects existing data but also creates new German and European data sets, SAFE is going to overcome this shortage. Its Policy Center aims at creating and maintaining a continuous dialogue with high-ranking policy makers in Germany and Europe in order to contribute to a sustainable development of financial markets, oriented on stability and growth.

Lifbi - Leibniz Institute For Educational Trajectories
The LIfBI - Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories studies educational processes from birth to adulthood. As an infrastructure institution, it designs large-scale longitudinal studies on educational issues and makes these data available to the entire scientific community for free. The core of the institute is the German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). Other major projects in which LIfBi is involved or leading include the refugee study ReGES, the school-related inclusion project Inside, the BRISE study for disadvantaged children and families and the regional study on education in Upper Franconia BiLO. The basis for this is our own research and development work, in particular the well-founded development of instruments and methods for longitudinal educational studies, from which other infrastructure facilities and projects also benefit.

Max Planck Institute For Astronomy
How did our home planet form? Are planets like our Earth exceptionally rare or quite common? What information can we glean from the more than thousand planets around other stars astronomers have found in the past decades? How can we detect earth-like planets around distant stars? And how might we find out whether or not they harbor life? How do stars form, and what is needed to make a star? How do the cradles of the stars - the molecular clouds - form out of the more diffuse interstellar medium? On a larger scale, what about our wider cosmic environment - how did our home galaxy, the Milky Way, come into existence? More generally, how do all the different types of galaxies form? And what makes some galaxies produce more stars than others? These fundamental questions about our origins, the evolution of our cosmic environment and, more generally, our place in the cosmos are what drives research at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy. In our quest for answers, we use, and help build some of the most advanced observational tools available - ground-based as well as space telescopes. We also simulate the formation and evolution of stars, planets, and galaxies and conduct laboratory experiments on the foundations of astrophysical processes.

Max Planck Institute For Comparative And International Private Law
From the European Single Market to the global interweaving of multi-national businesses or financial firms to our increasingly international everyday lives, the world around us is steadily converging. At the same time, our laws are encountering the limits of their application. The Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law embraces the task of critically studying the social, economic and legal challenges of globalisation. Comparative analysis of law is at the heart of the Institute’s scholarship. By applying this method, Institute researchers aim to determine the differences and similarities among the world’s legal systems. Comparative analysis enables them to distill findings on the development, classification and function of both domestic and foreign law. In turn, these findings become the basis of proposals furthering the development, harmonisation and unification of law – at the European as well as global level. Data protection:
