Le droit international est aujourd’hui de plus en plus contesté et le droit international humanitaire, branche du droit international conçue spécifiquement pour régir les conflits armés, n’y fait pas exception. Les critiques émanent même d’internationalistes, qui remettent en cause l’utilité d’une telle branche, ou qui l’estiment dépassée. La professeure Julia Grignon et les membres de son équipe de recherche estiment au contraire que les protections offertes par cette branche du droit international et les limitations qu’elle édicte doivent être plus que jamais promues et renforcées. Plus encore, loin d’être figé, le droit international humanitaire peut évoluer et s’adapter aux guerres contemporaines. Plutôt que de se détourner L’objectif du projet de recherche est de contribuer au développement et à la réaffirmation du droit international humanitaire à toutes les étapes du processus normatif. Pour ce faire, l’équipe de recherche articulera son travail autour de quatre sous-objectifs - Identifier les règles de droit international humanitaire- Contribuer à une interprétation évolutive de ces règles- Rendre ces règles accessibles à travers une meilleure diffusion; et - Participer à un meilleur enseignement du droit international humanitaire. Par ailleurs, de manière transversale, ce projet de recherche souhaite contribuer à densifier l’offre francophone en la matière. Pour réaliser ces objectifs, le projet de recherche s’articulera autour de quatre principales activités - Recherche étudiante, notamment à travers des projets réalisés au sein de la Clinique de droit international pénal et humanitaire - Organisation de rencontres (tables rondes, rencontres d’experts…)- Participation à des conférences - Participation à des concours de droit international humanitaire Ces activités sont menées de concert avec des partenaires variés, et une équipe de recherche composée d’étudiant-e-s spécialisé-e-s en droit international humanitaire.

UBC integrated Transportation Research (UiTR) Laboratory, formerly known as CeTLUR, is a transportation and land use research facility at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan (UBCO) campus. This centre is led by Dr. Mahmudur Fatmi, a transportation professor at UBCO. This research facility is dedicated to conduct innovative and inter-disciplinary research which ranges from designing surveys to collecting novel travel behavioural data and big data, to using the data to develop state-of-the-art behavioural models and urban system microsimulation tools to investigate the changes in land use and transportation choices. The findings of this research group assist in making effective transportation and land use policies and infrastructure investment decisions. The UiTR lab collaborates with scholars around the world, as well as has partnerships with the local, provincial and federal government agencies and industries.
