Mcgill Genome Centre

The McGill Genome Centre provides Canadian and international researchers with high-throughput technologies and cutting-edge approaches to enable next-generation genomic studies. Our Centre addresses key challenges in harnessing the power of next-generation sequencing (NGS) into innovation in biomedicine and the life sciences by: 1) Empowering study designs, sequencing and analytical solutions for nucleotide variation, 2) Providing comprehensive tools to assess functional differences in human tissues and cells, 3) Furnishing scalable techniques and robust interrogation of functional genomic variation in populations. We work closely with the other two major national genome centres as a founding member of the CGEn consortium to coordinate these efforts across Canada. Initiatives led by our scientists have enabled us to secure state-of-the-art technologies and integrate innovative methodologies, setting the stage for contemporary and future genomics operations with scope and impact beyond simply producing raw data, and thereby allowing Quebec and Canadian scientists leadership in genome-based science.

Groupe De Recherche Interdisciplinaire Sur Les Maladies Neuromusculaires Grimn

Le GRIMN est un groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire qui regroupe des chercheurs de l’Université de Sherbrooke et de l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Ces locaux sont situés à la Clinique des maladies neuromusculaires du du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. Les recherches réalisées par le GRIMN visent à caractériser les maladies neuromusculaires qui présentent une surprévalence au Canada (p. ex. dystrophie myotonique de type 1(DM1), ataxie récessive spastique de Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSCS) et dystrophie musculaire oculopharyngée (DMOP)) d’un point de vue clinique et fondamental. Le GRIMN rassemble des chercheurs d’horizons variés incluant les domaines de la physiothérapie, du travail social, de l'ergothérapie, de la neurologie, des sciences infirmières, de la neuropsychologie et de l'épigénétique. Le GRIMN et ses chercheurs ont reçu des prix provinciaux et nationaux pour leurs contributions scientifiques.

Women In Research Collective

Women in Research Collective (WiRC) is a peer mentorship network of women-identifying persons working and learning in research spaces. The founders, Janelle & Erin, often connect to seek advice and share experiences while working in research. Recognizing the value in connection and collaboration, WiRC was born from a desire to expand this conversation to others. What WiRC provides: A virtual community to connect, make friends, encourage discourse, and provide a safe space for women-identifying persons to share their achievements, questions, opportunities, and ideas. This community is primarily organized using a dedicated Slack space, where individuals can join various messaging channels to connect with others in the community. To support our aims, these channels include themes like #networking,#resources and #researchquestions, but there are also spaces for #mentalhealthcheck-ins and sharing our #goodnews. Monthly interactive discussions from September to May – with topics focusing both on more macro-level societal and sociological issues as well as hard research skills. Events (often in collaboration with other organizations) to facilitate fun and rejuvenating activities and content for our members and society at large.

Culture, Relationships And Wellbeing Lab Crawl

HUMAN BEINGS are social animals adapted for group living. Our research examines how culture, relationships, and well-being are developed and affects organizational outcomes. We answer those questions by investigating individuals' behaviors, couples' dynamics, as well as teams' performance. OUR LAB takes management and psychology approaches to these issues, moving from surveys, archival data analyses, interviews, and experiments. We hope our scientific endeavors can provide solutions to a range of organizational issues, including work recovery, work-family balance, intergroup cooperation, and diversity. STUDENTS will participate in weekly lab group (Culture, Relationships, and Well-being Lab: CRAWL) meetings with fellow students and senior researchers, e.g, postdocs, graduate students, and receive training on research methods, theory development, and statistical analysis. Our meetings are supportive and collaborative. Students in the lab group are encouraged to explore and contribute their own ideas and pursue lines of research that interests them. A KEY VALUE of CRAWL is inclusion. Our group is intentional in creating a welcoming and safe space conducive for learning and creativity.

Mcgill University Research Centre For Studies In Aging

The McGill University Research Centre for Studies in Aging (MCSA) was established in 1985 as a multi-disciplinary academic unit dedicated to gerontological research and postgraduate teaching on the mechanisms of aging as well as prevention of age-associated disorders. Recently the Centre’s mandate was modified to reflect the emergence of novel frontiers in the field of aging research. Most importantly, the MCSA has achieved international recognition for its integrative work on the neurodegeneration of the aging central nervous system and neurodegenerative diseases. The Centre’s scientists are renowned for their contributions in the fields of Alzheimer and Parkinson’s diseases and other cognitive disorders. These diseases are studied through cellular and animal models, epidemiological surveys and case-control studies, human brain banking and clinical drug trials. Long-term objectives include healthy aging for the population at large, delay of appearance of symptoms in genetically predisposed individuals and training of a cadre of basic and clinical scientists in gerontology. The MCSA is part of the McGill University Faculty of Medicine.
