Material Research Center For Cultural Property And Artworks

Central Research Laboratory” operates under “Material Research Center for Cultural Property and Artworks”, established in affiliation to the Rectorate of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2010 by the support of Turkish Ministry of Development as well as under “School of Conservation and Restoration of Movable Cultural Property”, founded in 2013. Central Research Laboratory meets the analysis demands of the public enterprises, institutions and the private sector, with its specialists from different scientific disciplines and a wide range of advanced analytical equipment in the field of material characterization of cultural property and artworks for conservation-restoration. It also develops interdisciplinary projects in this field. It consists of eight laboratories such as Chemistry, Mechanics, Wood, Petrography, X-ray, Electron Microscope, Spectroscopy, Chromatography and the Mobile laboratory. By the use of portable and laboratory based instruments present in Central Research Laboratory, the in-situ materials analyses of artworks which are not allowed to be taken out from the museums and certain collections, historical artifacts from the archaeological excavations, unmovable cultural property such as mosques and fountains can be performed non-destructively or with sampling in the micro scale, elucidating on their production technology as well.

Harran University

Şanlıurfa, where Harran University is located, is one of the oldest cities in Anatolia with its history dating back eleven thousand years from today. Located on the region called the Fertile Crescent in archaeological sources, Şanlıurfa has a vast cultural accumulation since it is located at the intersection of rich Anatolian culture and Mesopotamian culture. The historical city of Harran, which gave its name to our university, is 44 km from Şanlıurfa. It is a city center located in the southeast, which has witnessed important events in history. The real importance of Harran, which was also the capital of the Umayyads for a period, stems from its being an important science center since before Islam. Important studies were carried out in the fields of astronomy, medicine, mathematics, philosophy and religion in the Harran School, which was considered the university of its period. Harran continues to attract attention today as a tourism destination. Another feature of Şanlıurfa is that it is located at the center of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP), one of the largest integrated regional development projects in the world. Şanlıurfa will obtain significant gains once this project is fully implemented. While aiming to upgrade the standards of higher education and scientific research in Turkey, our university also undertakes an extremely important mission in the success of the GAP. Elements of this mission are; pioneering social and cultural change, supporting regional development through scientific studies, and creating a platform that allows rational evaluation of regional dynamics.

Metal Forming Center Of Excellence

The Metal Forming Center of Excellence (MFCE) was established in 2010, funded by the Turkish Ministry of Development and Atilim University. The Centre aims to support the Turkish and European metal forming industry through research in four main areas; developing innovative, knowledge-based manufacturing technologies; manufacturing high value-added components; manufacturing using new and advanced materials; and, exploring options for energy-efficient manufacturing. The research is conducted in close collaboration with both academia and industry. Since 2010, the Centre has worked on a significant number of national and international, small and medium-sized projects, developing an extensive database of contacts throughout the metal forming community and a considerable experience in disseminating knowledge through organising seminars, workshops and training courses. To support research, a range of facilities are available at the Centre, including metal forming machinery, equipment for forming-related measurement, material and microstructure characterisation as well as software and hardware for numerical analysis.

Visea was founded in November 2014 with a prestigious government fund (~9% success rate) granted by Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) in Eskişehir.
