The National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) at the University of Nebraska (NU) is one of 15 U.S. Department of War (DOW)-designated University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs). UARCs are research organizations within a university or college that are established to provide or maintain essential engineering, research and/or development capabilities through a long-term, strategic relationship with the DOW. Established in 2012, with the DOW sponsor, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), NSRI helps the DOW and other federal agencies meet evolving national security objectives across all domains by responsively delivering innovative research and solutions while developing the workforce. The success of NSRI is driven by our collaboration with the University of Nebraska System, providing unique access to academic perspectives and research methods not currently found anywhere else in the DOW. Phi Cancer Registry Of Greater California
The Cancer Registry of Greater California’s mission is to capture timely, high quality data from all cancer patients diagnosed in 48 of California’s 58 counties, and to utilize this information for cancer research to improve health outcomes and reduce cancer morbidity and mortality. After a patient is diagnosed with cancer at a doctor’s office, clinic, or hospital, the diagnosis and patient information is reported to CRGC where a trained certified tumor registrar analyzes the tumor location, size, type, and other information, creating a case file that is entered into a statewide system along with all the other tumors. This valuable data is used by doctors, researchers and other health professionals to inform cancer prevention research, cancer care and treatment, and improve health outcomes. Cancer cases (excluding basal and squamous cell carcinoma) are mandated by law to be reported to public health authorities. The CRGC is designated by the California Department of Public Health to collect the information for over 90% of the state’s geography. Click here for a list of counties covered by the CRGC. In addition to data collection, the CRGC is responsible for checking the accuracy of the data collected, including identifying and collecting missing data. Data are collected regarding cancer diagnoses and treatment from hospitals, physician offices (M.D.), laboratories and other sources. Quality control checks are performed at the CRGC before the data is submitted to the California Cancer Registry’s statewide cancer database. The CRGC is a project of the Public Health Institute.

The organization started by, Babak Kateb, out of the collaboration between NASA/JPL-USC-Keck School of Medicine and Caltech through an initial summit at NASA/JPL attended by nearly by 15 scientists from those institutions back in 2003. The summit was co-organized by Wolfgang Fink (NASA/JPL), John George (NASA/JPL) and Babak Kateb (USC-Keck School). Thus, the official color of the organization is Maroon and Gold. This initial think-tanks summit gradually grew overtime to a larger think-tank international convention. in 2004, Babak Kateb (the founder), Farzad Massoudi and Warren Grundfest filled the necessary legal and tax paperwork with the US IRS and obtained approval from IRS for a 501c6 Non-Profit multidisciplinary and multi-specialty (engineers, scientists, physicians, surgeons and policymakers as well as healthcare executives) biomedical association. The Society for Brain Mapping & Therapeutics (SBMT) was founded in 2004 to break boundaries in healthcare. The society promotes policies that support rapid, safe, and cost-effective translation of new technology into medicine. SBMT played a significant role in the formulation, planning and execution of Obama's BRAIN Initiative and in 2013 pioneered the G20+ World Brain Mapping & Therapeutic Initiative, which is aimed at creating a global consortium focusing on integration of nanotechnology, imaging, cellular/stem cell therapeutics, Information Technology (IT) and devices (this approach called NanoBioElectronics) in Brain Mapping.
