Who We Are: Berkeley Economic Review is the University of California at Berkeley’s premier undergraduate, peer-reviewed, academic economics journal. Established by the Undergraduate Economics Association at UC Berkeley, we are a 100% student-run and student-produced nonprofit publication. We were founded in 2016, and we publish online only. What We Do: We publish undergraduate research papers and honors theses in the field of economics, political science, public policy, business, statistics, and related fields. We also accept academic term papers, class essays, policy briefs, and op-eds. All undergraduate students currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university are welcome to submit content for review. Mission Statement: In Berkeley Economic Review we envision a platform for the recognition of quality undergraduate research and writing. Brain Support Network
Brain Support Network (BSN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of those challenged by neurological disorders. We have three missions. Because research for a cure of any neurological disorder needs brain tissue, BSN’s first mission is to make brain donation as easy as possible for families in the US that want to donate a loved one’s brain. Most brains are delivered to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, which sponsors neurological research, worldwide. Brain Support Network has helped over 300 families in the US successfully accomplish brain donation. We’d like to help your family, too. BSN’s other two missions are a Northern California Bay Area support group for caregivers, and education of families so we can communicate effectively with our loved ones’ care teams. Technology participation is not equitable in the US. 1 in 5 households do not have a connected laptop or desktop. A further 1 in 7 households are limited digital participants. Combined, this participation gap impacts 1 in 3 American (43M) households with a disproportionate effect on lower-income, Blacks, and Hispanics. We feel there is a 'glitch in the matrix'- a flaw in how tech products are built is perpetuating systemic injustice. Bias in the data used by tech companies to guide product decisions favors elite heavy users. Less engaged users and nonparticipants have little to no representation. The lack of diverse voices risks the formation of an echo chamber where technology products become over-optimized for elite heavy users. Products may even develop exclusionary behavior preventing participation of non-elites leading to lower participation overall. Technology was envisioned to be the great equalizer, to equitably better the lives of all people. We believe this vision is still achievable. We call on the makers of tech products to be more intentful in engaging and servicing our diverse population. It starts by building a Customer Diversity and Inclusion plan.
