The Healthcare Improvement & Innovation In Quality Thinq Collaborative
THINQ is a health care improvement team within the UCLA Department of Medicine that aims to foster innovation and collaboration by forming inter-professional teams to catapult new solutions to real-world clinical problems specific to the Department of Medicine patient population. Our ultimate goal is to create an ideal environment in which providers, staff, and patients feel most comfortable. We are a motivated group of undergraduate and graduate students working with physicians at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center to conduct clinical research and make proposals for the betterment of healthcare quality. Our program involves research, physician shadowing experience, speaker events from individuals in various healthcare fields, as well as discussions about diverse topics in the healthcare industry that affect patients and physicians. We shadow patient rounds, collect data, present research, and review papers on health care in order to propose solutions. We have had opportunities this year to present at several national undergraduate research conferences and submit manuscripts to undergraduate research journals. We offer mentorship, professional development, and the opportunity to view medicine through an intersectional perspective.

The Laboratory For Research On The Structure Of Matter Lrsm
The Materials Research Science & Engineering Center (MRSEC) at the University of Pennsylvania pursues a multidisciplinary approach to solve fundamental materials problems that are likely to underlie future technologies, and thereby, substantially impact the research and educational needs of society. The Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM) is the intellectual focal point of materials research at PENN. It hosts the MRSEC, which consists of three Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs) plus continually evolving Seed projects. The MRSEC provides crucial support for faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students drawn from different disciplines, to tackle complex materials science projects that can only be addressed in a truly collaborative mode. In this way, the MRSEC exploits PENN's strength in the design, synthesis, characterization, theory and modeling to create and understand entirely new classes of materials. The broad expertise, sophisticated equipment, plus the technical and administrative infrastructure that exist in the LRSM enable these projects. IRG1: Rearrangements & Softness in Disordered Solids IRG2: Structural Chemo-Mechanics of Fibrous Networks IRG3: Pluperfect Nanocrystal Architectures The LRSM plays a special role at PENN: It facilitates collaborations between faculty from different departments and schools, and it promotes links to partners in industry, government, academe, and society at large. The LRSM has experience in managing IRGs, nurturing Seed projects, and acquiring, building and maintaining shared experimental facilities for the benefit of the materials research community. The LRSM provides education & outreach in this "research" context and has moved aggressively in the area of human resources development through programs that target students at all levels from K-12 to post-docs, teachers, small college faculty, regional academic, industrial & gov. scientists, the intl. scientific comm, and the general public.

Since its founding in 2013, the goal of The Undergraduate Research Journal of Psychology (URJP) has been to serve undergraduate students who are interested and involved in psychology-related research by providing a peer-reviewed platform that fosters a collaborative environment where undergraduates can receive mentorship from graduate students in psychology-related fields. Undergraduate authors are provided with the opportunity to share their work with peers and gain editorial feedback, while our UCLA undergraduate editorial committee members are provided with the opportunity to develop and refine their skills in critical thinking, reading, and evaluating research manuscripts. In addition to the annual publication, the URJP makes it a priority to host academic and professional development workshops for the URJP undergraduate staff and the larger UCLA undergraduate community. Uchicago Research Bangladesh Urb
Prolonged exposure to naturally occurring high levels of arsenic has been associated with cancers of the skins, lung, bladder, liver and kidney. Arsenic poisoning has also been linked to cardiovascular, endocrine and neurodevelopmental disorders. Hallmarks of chronic arsenic exposure include skin lesions, peripheral neuropathy and anemia. The onset of arsenic exposure in Bangladesh began in the 1970s with the introduction of hand-pumped tube wells. While these sources of clean water helped to reduce the incidence of waterborne illnesses, the tube wells also unwittingly exposed a large portion of the Bangladeshi population to water with naturally occurring high-levels of arsenic. As a result, as many as 70 million Bangladeshis are chronically exposed to arsenic through drinking water. The WHO has called this catastrophe “the largest mass poisoning of a population in history”. In the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University, with funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), initiated the “Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS)” study in Araihazar. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of arsenic exposure at different levels on various health outcomes. In 2006, the University of Chicago established a local non-profit affiliate – University of Chicago Research Bangladesh (URB)– which joined forces with Government of Bangladesh health authorities to assume responsibility for most aspects of the study. NIH continues to fully fund the arsenic exposure research in Araihazar. URB currently operates a well-equipped research laboratory at Araihazar for processing and storing biological samples as per research protocols. URB also established a primary health care center in Araihazar in Approximately 100 study participants and their families receive care at the facility each day. URB also supports safe motherhood services in the community to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
