The NOC Sri Lanka (non-governmental and non-profitable) was inaugurated on 8th April 1937 at a meeting of representatives of the Athletic, Swimming and Boxing Associations. As resolved on this day, the first meeting of the Ceylon Olympic and Empire Games Association was held on 30th April 1937. The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka was recognised by the International Olympic Committee in the same year it was inaugurated – 1937. Accordingly, to the date of recognition of NOCs by the IOC, NOC Sri Lanka stands in 6th place and is, therefore, one of the oldest NOCs in Asia. The dream of many an Olympic Committee Official came true on 25th September 2008 when the “Sri Lanka Olympic House” was ceremonially declared open at No. 100/9F, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7. Our vision is to “Inspire Sri Lankans through Olympism and Sport” Our mission is to “ Develop, Promote, and Protect the Olympic and Sport Movement in Sri Lanka” Also committed to propagating Sports in Sri Lanka and thereby to achieve unity and brotherhood among the different communities living in Sri Lanka and to promote sportsmanship and healthy competition in the World Sports Arena. The NOC Sri Lanka is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation, committed to the development of youth and sport. It is our responsibility to send Sri Lankan Teams to the South Asian Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympic Games.

National Institute Of Sports Science
National Institute of Sports Science (NISS) is the premier institute of sports education in Sri Lanka. It was established under the provisions of the sports law No. 25, 1973 and named “Sports School" with its inauguration in 1978 under the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Sports. It was reorganized in 1996 under the provisions of an Act of Parliament, which amended the original sports law and renamed as the National Institute of Sports Science. The Institute was attached to the Department of Sports Development in 1992. NISS has been functioning as a separate institute under the Ministry of Sports since the 1st of January 2006. Personnel from many state organizations such as the Ministry of Sports, Provincial Ministries of Sports, Ministry of Education, National Youth Services Council, Armed forces, Department of Police etc. receive their sports education from this institute. The major academic activities of the institute include Diploma in Sports Science (One Year), Advanced Diploma in Coaching for sports coaches (Six months), Certificate course in Sport Management and short term courses in sport coaching. Apart from that, the institute conducts physical fitness programs, workshops, conferences and lectures based on the demands and requirements of the sports field. NISS is supposed to be upgraded to a fully-fledged Degree awarding institute in collaboration with a local or foreign university in the future.

The Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS) is the National body for life saving and water safety related activities in Sri Lanka. It is affiliated to the International Life Saving Federation (ILS), Royal Life Saving (Commonwealth), International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF – UK) and UITEMATE – Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan. The SLLS is registered with the Ministry Sports & Youth Affairs of Sri Lanka (National Association of Sports Regulation No. 25, 1973 and National Association of Sports Regulation 2016.10.27 No. 1990/23 (23rd National Sport), Also recognized by the Ministry of Health, Education, Defense, Social Services and Disaster Management Center of Sri Lanka. Our main objective is to reduce drowning and water related accidents both in onshore and offshore within the country. We have a proud record of training nearly one million members of public including school children, armed forces and Police force, for free of charge. Sri Lanka has been granted with ILS equivalency to be among the 60 countries recognizing continuous engagement with this humanitarian service for a period of well over 70 years.
