Apex Cardiology
Apex Cardiology aims to provide the highest level of customer care, whilst maintaining a positive work environment. Our cardiologist, Dr Jacqui Huxley, is an experienced consultant veterinary cardiologist and we utilise advanced diagnostic equipment, enabling us to offer an exceptional level of care. We appreciate the trust vets afford us when referring a valued client, and keep you informed of the progress of the referral and report our findings quickly. From there, we either hand the case back to primary care, or continue with a collaborative approach between ourselves, the primary practice and the pet’s family. We understand the emotional, financial and time commitment involved in bringing a pet to a referral hospital and caring for a pet with cardiac disease; and strive to ensure the experience is as positive as it can be. There is so much that can be done to help the pets of New Zealand, whether as an individual pet with heart disease, by sharing knowledge between vet professionals, or through industry’s innovation. Vets/VNs/VTs: Cardiorespiratory patients can be fragile and you might question if there’s more that should be done? Are diagnostics needed for a pet that appears outwardly well? Keen to feel more confident doing an echo or reading an ECG? If you’d like help with a case, or to cement your cardio-knowledge, visit CPD: quality CPD, which benefits vet professionals and their practice, can take time to find and organise. Tell us what your requirements are, and we can tailor CPD to meet them. CPD can be run remotely or in your practice, to fit in with your timetable. Visit Pet owners/Breeders: the amount online about pets’ heart health can be overwhelming and knowing ‘what to do for the best’ hard. If you have questions about your pet’s heart condition, your breed’s heart screening or how to approach heart health concerns in your line, please get in touch clinic@apexcardiology.co.nz

Energy Vets Taranaki
Energy Vets Taranaki is a privately owned mixed animal veterinary practice based in North Taranaki on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, with clinics in Inglewood and Waitara. The practice has operated in the region for decades, and the clinic owners continue to work within the practice alongside the wider team. Our work grew from long-standing veterinary services supporting farming communities across the region. Today, we service areas from Mokau in the north through to Tariki in the south, working with clients we often know well and see regularly. Most of the farms we work with are independently owned rather than corporate, meaning we deal directly with the owners themselves. Energy Vets is a genuinely mixed practice. Dairy work remains a significant part of the caseload, alongside companion animal services and other species including horses, sheep and beef, goats and deer. The mix varies by role and by site. As the practice has grown, both clinics have been updated to support expanded small animal services and practical team workflows. Growth has been steady and shaped by the region rather than external pressure. Professional development is supported across the team, including pathways toward shareholding and directorship for those who aspire to it. There are multiple podcast conversations with different team members, hosted on Veterinary Voices, available if you’d like to hear directly what it’s like to work at Energy Vets. Additional information — including team profiles, location details for North Taranaki, Waitara and Inglewood, and current vacancies — is available here: https://careers.vetclinicjobs.com/energy-vets/

Vetsone
We’re VetsOne — a privately owned mixed practice based in Hastings, in New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay. Three working directors — Jason, Sharon and Mike — own and run the business. All three still work alongside the team every day. A few years back we moved into a purpose-built, multi-storey building on a Hastings main road — a big step up from the old place. The new space has made room for better equipment, more structured workflows, and a communal upstairs area where people actually get to know each other outside the busy work areas below. We’ve invested in the Lincoln Institute leadership program for the whole team — not as a management exercise, but as a practical commitment to how we communicate, raise things and hold each other accountable. Most of the protocols we work to now came from the team itself. Our euthanasia process is one example: the consent and preparation steps, sedation, the candle that gets lit near the front door when an animal crosses the rainbow bridge and paw prints all came from our nurses. When Cyclone Gabrielle hit in 2023, the team just got on with it. Amanda, our operations manager — 30+ years at VetsOne — described it simply: everyone said what do we need to do, and let’s do it. We back our people in less obvious ways too. Dr Mia, one of our small animal vets, developed a serious interest in herbal and complementary medicine alongside her mainstream practice — and now runs that work as a separate business under her own banner. Abi, one of our vet nurses, sat on an idea for a patient weight management clinic for months before she mentioned it. Sharon said yes — plan it out and let’s go. It launched. It worked. If you’d like to hear directly from the people who work here, there are popodcast conversations with multiple team members on Veterinary Voices.
