Background
About Aanya Kumar
From managing ink on paper to imagining the future of fashion, I’m bridging my background in print manufacturing with a growing passion for sustainable innovation in fashion tech. By day, I’m a Project Manager in the In-Store Marketing department at TC Transcontinental, Canada’s largest printing company, leading production for the Walmart account—one of the country’s most complex and fast-paced retail environments. I’ve learned how to bring big ideas to life through logistics, cross-functional collaboration, and meticulous attention to detail. But behind the deadlines and dielines, fashion was always my quiet obsession. I grew up dressing up my Barbies and curating outfits from my closet like a runway stylist. Still, I wasn’t sure where I fit in a fashion industry so often defined by fast cycles and murky ethics. So, I shelved it as a personal passion. Then came the moment I realized I’d already stepped into fashion tech without meaning to: I pitched a thesis on 3D-printed smart accessories that won a mock Dragon’s Den competition. It lit a spark that never really went out.(Curious? Read more in my featured post!) Now, while continuing to build my career in print, I’m carving out space to explore the fashion tech world more intentionally. I know these are two very different industries—print is legacy-driven and physical; fashion tech is digital, fast-moving, and systems-focused. But that’s exactly what makes this dual path exciting. I’m drawn to the places where methodical execution meets creative disruption. In my spare time, you’ll find me researching circular models, resale platforms, and how emerging technologies can support more conscious consumption. I’m even the kind of person who spends a Saturday tagging my digital closet with metadata on Whering (because systems thinking is my love language). Currently earning my Agile Project Management certification, I’m exploring how to translate my experience managing large-scale print production (tight timelines, vendor coordination, quality control, and CRM) into opportunities that intersect with sustainable fashion and technology. The future of fashion isn’t just about what we wear—but about how it’s made, moved, and reimagined. And while I’m staying rooted in print, I’m also following that curiosity wherever it leads.
