Background
About Aaron Brill
I have been a cop for over 25 years and while working to make people in prison 'bigger, faster and stronger' may seem like it went against my best interests, that's not the real goal or (sole) outcome of the Lions’ Pride program. This 'labor of love' started in February 2017 when I met a group of incarcerated men that wanted to change prison culture and the lives of those around them. We hide an accountability, leadership and mentorship project behind the broad, general, inclusive fitness of CrossFit. We find incarcerated core members, dedicated Courts, Corrections and Post-Incarceration teams and members of the CrossFit community, give them the tools and hard earned knowledge gained from years of work in this space then support them in growing their teams. I am nothing special in this, except what God has made me. I have a singular path (as we all do) that has made me the right person, at the right time to help lead and guide this but I need help! I'm a good coach, was a decent cop and I’m pretty good at lifting heavy things. I have been told I'm a good spokesperson for this project but I need people that know the business world to help as this potentially becomes a national (or even international (we have interest from Australia and England)) program. I retired from law enforcement in February 2022 and have reengaged as a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy. In my 22 years with the Denver Police I spent the first 8 in Park Hill when it was the gang and murder center of the city, then 8 years as an academy instructor including 4 as the lead Arrest Control Instructor and member of the fitness team. Then another year as a patrol officer in Montbello before promoting to Sergeant to finish my time with DPD in the downtown/LoDo area through the civil unrest of the recent past. I never lost my passion for training, especially law enforcement training. Through a 'long story' chain of events went into business brokerage. I used the mediation and negotiation skills from decades of NOT arresting people and talking through situations when possible to the world of helping people buy and sell businesses. There was still pressure and even a little adrenaline but MUCH less gunplay;) The work had a flexible schedule that allowed for time with my wife and two small kids and the calling of Lions’ Pride BUT turned out not to be a great fit. It was an educational 1 1/4 year that I'll forever be thankful for but I wanted to get back into helping people, not just bottom lines so here I am back on The Job with an incredible department working for a great community!
