About Aaron Crider

I believe the power of words can change the world, either for good or for bad. Ideas spread and catch on like a wildfire, and that is why I believe the world needs educated and caring writers to lead the rest through the clouds of misinformation, fear and bigotry. To quote Zlata Filipovic, a young girl who survived the Bosnian War in the 1990s,"Writing about the things that happen to us allows us to look objectively at what's going on around us." I am a creative writer who happened to fall into journalism. I started out as a designer, putting together the sports pages at The Herald-Palladium in St. Joseph, MI. I was instantly hooked by the feel of the newsroom. The clicking of keyboards, the sound of the press humming as it warmed up for the night's print run, and the sound of editors checking to make sure stories would make deadline gave me an immediate rush. By the end of my first year at the HP I became one of two sportswriters for the paper. Over the next four years I covered some of the greatest local sporting events, including a Class B boys basketball state championship and the 2018 Senior PGA Tour at Harbor Shores. I used to think writing fiction was my true passion, but my time spent on the sidelines and court side have shown me that real life has so many interesting stories to tell. And, honestly, I want to be there telling them for the next 30 or 40 years. Right now I am back to my roots as a Designer/Page Editor for Gannett, Inc. I work from home like many do right now, ensuring that the content provided by the papers throughout the USA Today Network standout and tell their stories with an impact. I help readers stay informed by making sure the content is accurate on the page, free of errors, and that each page is designed to make the reader stop and pay attention. I look forward to telling stories, whether that is with the news industry or through personal essays. There is so much to enjoy and report on out in the world. I'm eager to use my creative skills as a storyteller and my researching talents as an experienced journalist, to tell those stories.
