About Aaron Depass

Aaron believes user experience and interface design is all about recipe-making — creating the rules, processes, and ingredients to a certain experience. He loves finding ways to visually and intuitively communicate that recipe of a great user experience. Just like a food recipe the ingredients need to be tailored to that type of food. His goal as a designer is to create “recipes” that not only are tailored to the type of product, but also speak to the user in a way that is understandable to them. As much as he is for finding ways of communicating his recipes, what’s more important to him is potentially finding new ways of breaking those rules and making new recipes that make more sense to those cooking. His job as a designer is to give you the best recipe possible, so that you can go out and create your own experience. Aaron’s creative approach—no matter the medium—is to find vulnerabilities with the state of art. His focus is to ask why do we do the things we do whatever the medium. This is not so that he can try to reinvent the wheel for the sake of it, but to rather finds points of tension in order to think critically and hopefully originally. Exploring ideas that make him uncomfortable is what makes Aaron love UX Design so much. Being able to understand and articulate experiences that don’t make sense enable us to take ownership of the way in which we interact with our surroundings. That ownership breeds change.
