About Aaron Meng

I graduated in May 2010 with my Master's in Social Work from San Diego State University. Since then I have worked for San Diego Youth Services, where I provided Alcohol and Drug Counseling to youth ages 13-18 years old. My position there was Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor (ATOD Counselor). I also worked simultaneously for Social Advocates for Youth (SAY) San Diego as a Program Coordinator and Facilitator with the Dads on Duty initiative. I provided group counseling and education to father's in the military. We dealt with PTSD, Parenting, and other issues revolved around military family life. After my time with SDYS and SAY San Diego I was acquired by the County of San Diego as a Protective Services Worker. I ran front end operations and my primary role was an investigative social worker in the child abuse unit. I have done hundreds of risk and safety assessments and family safety planning. I also provided input and expertise in team decision making meetings as well as resource management and brief strategic counseling for families. I have excellent skills in individual and group therapy. I have provided clinical counseling addressing parenting, anxiety, depression, family dynamics/functioning, suicide, behavior change, and addiction. I have experience with motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, strengths based, brief strategic therapy, family counseling, counseling groups (psychoeduc. and treatment) as well as case management, treatment planning, discharge planning, assessment, biopsychosocial assessments, safety and risk assessments, and resource management. My time with the City of San Diego Gang Commission as a program coordinator included grant management and reporting, case management, community organizing, resource management, and group facilitation. I also attended City Council meetings and provided grant reports, program updates, and action plans to the Mayor of San Diego.
